We started Progress in the Summer of 2012. The brand started in Manchester, England. We take great pride in being from Manchester and the city's culture and history influences a lot of our designs. James Tighe (a then blue belt) started the brand with his close friends and family, all of whom a decade later are still part of the company. We all shared one thing in common, an unbelievable passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We fell in love with the sport and our dream was to one day quit our jobs and work on the brand full time, being involved with the Jiu Jitsu community, to help it grow as much as we could. This dream became our goal. The brand name perfectly represented how we felt about the sport, and us as people. It's all about the Progress you make. We put less emphasis on winning at all costs, and more on improvement. We genuinely want our customers and fans to be the best they can possibly be, on and off the mats, and the essence of our brand is to try our best to make that happen, through our products, our content, our athletes, our projects and everything else we do. We quit our jobs and committed to a warehouse lease. We have not looked back since, and have our amazing customers to thank for giving us the best job in the world. We pride ourselves on adding more value to the Jiu Jitsu community than we take out. Stockton Sixth Form College has built an exceptional reputation for academic achievement over many years and, as the only specialist sixth form college in Stockton on Tees, has over 40 years’ experience delivering A-level, BTEC and GCSE qualifications to students aged 16-19 from across the region. In 2016, we became the first sixth form college in 18 years to merge, when we formalised our working partnership with Prior Pursglove College. The merger helped safeguard sixth form college education in each respective borough and now enables us to move forward in a strong position to fulfil our vision of offering high quality education across a wide range of courses in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Ofsted judged Stockton Sixth Form to be a ‘Good’ college across all areas in its latest report, noting “high success rates across all levels of study” and “very effective support for students”. Inspectors commented on “lively and dynamic” learning facilitated by staff who “motivate students strongly to complete high quality work to fulfil their potential”. You can read the full report here. The college has a vibrant, diverse and friendly environment with around 600 students. We are committed to providing inspirational teaching led by staff who are specialists in their field. The small and inclusive nature of the college enables us to keep class sizes to a minimum – an average of 15 students per lesson – ensuring each student is given the individual support needed to excel. It is our focus on developing students into all-round individuals that enables students to secure their next step successfully. Ofsted recognised that the college “prepares students well for progression to their next steps” and that “all completing students had a positive destination to either further or higher education or employment”. Progression on to higher education from Stockton Sixth Form College bucks the national trend and we also offer a prestigious scholarship opportunity for students who achieve a place to study at Oxbridge.

Strong Like a Mutha was Founded in 2016 by Lyndsey Roberts after the birth of her son. Having previously been a professional dancer and exercised her whole life, Lyndsey found herself in a whole new world with a high risk pregnancy and very little evidence based information on safe and effective training for women in her situation. Ultimately this resulted in the complete halting of exercise which then caused lots of pain and discomfort throughout her pregnancy. Returning to exercise postnatally Lyndsey knew there had to be more information out there and began to feel drawn to helping and supporting women in the fitness industry. And so Strong Like a Mutha was born! Lyndsey and the SLAM community have created a gym environment (The Mutha Ship) that is welcoming, inviting, non-intimidating and allows its members to work as hard as they like. Our project vision is to create vibrant local, regional and European learning communities, fuelled by Regional Learning Facilitators. We need new organisational concepts and ownership of issues and concerns from the crowd. Our approach lies in analog and digital networking and support structures that take into account the value of informal networks. The key message of the project is: “When we share, we win”. By learning communities, we mean forms of exchange and cooperation organised by ourselves or supported by the community, which ideally are supported by the involvement of education authorities. The Learning Communities deal with solutions to upcoming problems in everyday education, with challenges of the education system at different system levels, with the creation, exchange and further development of teaching materials, etc. The Learning Communities are also involved in the development of new teaching materials and in the development of new teaching methods. As concrete project goals, we see: the training of 24 Regional Learning Community Facilitators at least 12 Regional Learning Communities in 4 European countries the creation of a European cross-border learning community with at least 48 active members The development of a Learning Community Facilitator Curriculum, which will later become a standard KA1 workshop offer. the development of an AI-supported passive networking platform for teachers and school stakeholders to test a further development option for eTwinning that currently relies only on active search functions Our target group is teachers and their reference system. Our aim is to indirectly support the work of the teachers and to facilitate their planning, implementation and follow-up of their lessons by focusing on the principles of cooperation and exchange. Through active networking, but also by pointing out connection possibilities, teachers should no longer have the feeling of being alone in the corridor but embedded in a professional system that also brings them more self-confidence and self-efficacy.

Peter Reznikov has dedicated his entire professional life to excellence in education. After graduating from Moscow State Linguistic University in 1991, he was invited to work in the UK as a teacher of Russian and in the same year he opened his educational consultancy PRINCE (Peter Reznikov International Centre for Education) which, for more than 25 years, has been helping children from all over the world gain access to the UK’s leading private schools, colleges and universities. Throughout his 25 year career in British education, Peter has taught in various private and state schools teaching both boys and girls. In 1998 he became the Head of the Russian Department at Eton College, the first Russian national to do so in the prestigious school’s 575 year history. In his 17 years at the helm of the Russian department at Eton (1998-2015) the number of students studying Russian rose from just 13 to 130. More than 50 of them successfully gained a place at Oxford and Cambridge Universities, as well as other leading Universities in the UK, USA, France, Holland and Germany. Peter also worked for the London Examination Board (currently EDEXCEL) for over 10 years, starting as a script-marker and becoming a Principal Examiner setting papers and overseeing the marking teams, as well as monitoring the overall quality and comparability of the GCSE and A-level Russian examinations which are widely used in the UK and in British schools abroad. Peter is the author of a number of Russian teaching materials and articles on Russian language, literature and cinema. He has co-authored several Russian text-books which are widely used by teachers and students in the UK and abroad. He has made appearances on Russian and British television, Internet, radio and other mainstream media sources on a variety of educational issues. He actively follows the rapidly-changing world of educational thinking and policy, regularly visits different schools, colleges and Universities in the United Kingdom and other countries and his PRINCE continues to provide educational services to people from over 20 countries.

Navigating Neurodiversity

The European Agency on the Development of Special Needs Education (EADSNE) (2006) highlighted individual differences as one of the largest challenges faced by teachers in mainstream schools not only in the UK but across Europe. Teacher training and preparation to support neurodiverse pupils within a mainstream setting has failed to keep up with the changes within the field of inclusion leaving teachers ill equipped to achieve true inclusivity within their classroom. The most recent study of mainstream teachers within the West Midlands highlighted that less than 29% of teachers felt confident to support the neurodiverse pupils within their class with 17% unsure of the meaning of Neurodiversity. Navigating Neurodiversity provides hands-on training and support for mainstream schools to improve teacher confidence when supporting the neurodiverse pupils within their classroom. To provide advice and guidance of ensuring barriers to learning within the classroom/school are permanently removed and providing ongoing intervention and support strategies, including de-escalation techniques to provide and happy, safe and inclusive environment which best supports learning for all pupils. We also work with leadership team, including SENCo, providing support, advice, planning and assessment documentation throughout the EHCP application process to ensure a successful outcome is achieved with maximum support gained for learners with SEN. Neurodiversity is the term to show the diverse way of the way the brain functions, specifically the range of ways in which we learn, think and relate to others (Honeybourne 2018). The neurodiversity paradigm argues that there is not one ‘normal’ way in which the brain functions. Originating within the study of autism to show that there was no ‘norm’ with regard to learning and social interaction and that autism was not a disorder, neurodiversity is now the term used to include all perceived neurological differences including dyscalculia, dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and Tourette syndrome and supports the theory that no set way of neurocognitive functioning is more important/normal than the other and that differences in learning should be supported and embraced.

The Customer Factor

The Customer Factor was launched in 2004 by our CEO and President, Steve Wright. He owned a window cleaning business at the time and was tired of messing around with index cards and the manual follow up process. Follow up is important but having to sift through index cards all the time just wasn’t fun and was a huge time waster! So The Customer Factor got its start primarily as a way to automate the follow up processes in Steve’s own business. There simply wasn’t any any other program available at the time that automated the process. From those humble beginnings in 2004 we have grown to the point where The Customer Factor is now simplifying and streamlining service businesses all over the world. The Future… Have we finished building? Not a chance! We’re building out our infrastructure now to handle the growth and as technology gets introduced we’re latching on to it if it makes sense for our user base. And we all know the future is mobile, so our iOS and Android apps are growing with new features constantly. New Features are also being introduced into the software almost weekly. Software, if done correctly, is never “finished”. We take this literally. We don’t wait months or a year to introduce an update. That’s nutty. We work on features 6 days a week, so when a feature is completed, we upload it right away so that our users can benefit from it. If you ask around or talk to another current user of The Customer Factor, chances are one of the things they’ll say is “They’re always adding new features”.
