Over the course of an eighteen-year career in the English Language teaching world, I have developed a style and understanding which allows me to engage learners of all levels, styles and needs and across all age ranges. Working in both multilingual and monolingual environments in a number of countries has given me a broad spectrum of experience to draw upon when trying to understand the requirements of a learner and also the difficulties they experience during their English Language journey. More recently, I have worked in product design, development and delivery. Starting from the ground level of conception based on the needs of a specific course or group allows you to see how content must fit both the learners involved and the end result required. It has also given me the unique opportunity to deliver the course and continue to make adjustments to provide the students with the best possible experience and outcome. A number of these products also have London as a focal point. This has meant integrating the city into the language learning. After years spent living and working in the capital and visiting many of its sights, using London as a source of the lessons and the activities has given me an even greater understanding of the capital and the wonders it possesses.

Let me tell you a bit about my experience and my approach to languages. I started learning foreign languages as a child and have been teaching them for more than twenty years; this has helped me see both ends of the process, as a learner and as a tutor. Over the years I experienced and witnessed those cycles of -unrealistic expectations, peaks of enthusiasm and, frequent frustration, which we all go through when learning a language. That got me thinking... Are languages too difficult? What are the learners' challenges? Is the teacher's method and approach relevant? So, after seeing people struggle, sometimes give up, and other times persevere and succeed, I decided to use my experience, i.e. what had worked in my teaching and in my learning and I founded LIVE TO LEARN LANGUAGES, where I create a space for all to harvest the emotional, cultural and intellectual rewards of learning a second language. Tutors who join our team us must all share the same passion and human qualities: dedication, patience and creativity; the latter being essential to explain grammar and develop activities that will exercise students' memory muscle enthusiastically. Together we promote not only language acquisition but also the culture where they come from, as this makes the process of learning far more engaging. Jason West is the founder and chief creator of English Out There. He now has almost thirty years of self-employed experience in transformational English language teaching and learning. In 1992, at the age of 25, he co-founded an English language school in the heart of London’s West End and within two and half years the school achieved British Council accreditation (which annoyed a few people!). A long-standing interest in the psychology of learning lead Jason to feel that something could be done to improve the way his students acquired English. As a result he created the English Out There (EOT) course concept, where students engage directly with fluent or native speakers at every stage of their language development. The language laboratory in EOT's case was (and still is) the streets of London and members of the public (recently we have been experimenting successfully with handheld mobile technology and Google+ community pages). A lot of people have helped to create English Out There over the years. The principal EOT lieutenants have been Georgina Moon, Maria Stamati-Knipe and Jonathan Jones whilst Tim Bowen helped edit the materials for publication. After 250,000 hours of teaching and editing English Out There course materials were born. They can be used both offline and on. The online element came out of a fascination with social media and free internet telephony such as Facebook and Skype. An interesting quirk of their design is that they will work with any and all social media platforms, even those not yet invented! The inexpensive DRM-free course materials for students and teachers recently made the EU’s top 10 formal uses of social media for language learning and can be purchased online from this website. English Out There is the only English program we know of that posts 'before and after' audio and video proof of the amazing progress of real students. It is a truly transformational English course because learners who have tried and failed to speak English comfortably for years find that it helps them to break through their personal language barriers.
