Flourished You

flourished you

Flourished you offers courses and trainings for businesses and private individuals on wellbeing and its components. The foundation of our work is Positive Psychology, the science of wellbeing and flourishing.  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Based on one of the most widely used models of wellbeing from Positive Psychology, the following wellbeing components are covered by Flourished You. Pleasant Emotions The frequent and stable experience of pleasurable emotions for improved psychological resources and wellbeing. Engagement The complete engagement in life through the application of strengths and immersed attention.  Relationships The central and evolutionary factor of wellbeing are supportive relationships for psychological safety and security. Meaning and Purpose The sense of belonging and of contributing to something significant and greater than oneself according to core values. Achievement The pursuit of achievement, competence success and mastery for their own sake in a variety of areas. Vitality The optimal physical conditions through nutrition, movement, sleep and rest to enable wellbeing.  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- However, wellbeing is a complex phenomenon that depends on a subjective balance of satisfaction of various elements in each person and can not be grasped by a model for the individual. Therefore, Flourished You helps to clarify and improve the individual wellbeing elements through coaching [http://flourished-you.com/coaching]. Flourished You's quest for insight into the great life integrates the latest scientific findings with wisdom and practices developed over hundreds and thousands of years in disciplines concerned with wellbeing on this earth, such as Yoga or Buddhist meditation practices. This provides a truly holistic perspective on the great life.

William Edwards School

London

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our website and our school. William Edwards is a large, successful, harmonious and thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. Pupil outcomes across the school are historically strong. However, attending William Edwards is about so much more than just GCSE outcomes. We firmly believe that your school days should be the best days of your life and that schools have a moral purpose to extend the life experiences of their pupils. That is why we boast the largest Duke of Edinburgh cohort of any school in the East of England and are one of only a very small number of secondary schools nationally to hold both the Artsmark Platinum Award and the Youth Sports Trust Gold Award for our work in these diverse fields. We were delighted that our last inspection report noted that “pupils who spoke to inspectors were effusive about their experience in school” and that “the breadth of curriculum opportunities available at the school is a real ‘gem’ in the school’s offer to its pupils”. The school is a proud founding member of the South West Essex Community Education Trust which runs three secondary schools and three primary schools across Thurrock and the London Borough of Havering. We were delighted that our last Ofsted inspection captured our considerable strengths in teaching, pastoral care, behaviour, pupil support and curriculum. We are pleased that these ‘cornerstones’ of high quality education remain strong at the school.

British Society For Middle Eastern Studies

british society for middle eastern studies

London

Our Aims To encourage and promote interest and study of the Middle Eastern cultural region from the end of classical antiquity to the present day in particular but not exclusively through the dissemination of information and by the encouragement of co-operation amongst persons concerned with the scholarly study of the region. Statement of Purpose Founded in 1973, BRISMES provides a forum for educators and researchers in Middle East Studies. Membership is open to all regardless of nationality or country of residence. We work to promote interest in Middle East Studies and to raise awareness of the region and how it is connected to other parts of the world, including the UK. Middle East Studies is a diverse field, which encompasses all the humanities and social sciences and reaches from the present back to classical antiquity. The long history of our field of study has made us particularly aware of the connections between knowledge and power. We see connections between research, education, teaching and fundamental questions of social change. We do not believe that research and education should be divorced from the wider social and political context nor that it should exist to serve elites. We believe that a commitment to promote research and education in Middle East Studies involves a duty to consider the conditions under which knowledge is produced and disseminated, and if necessary, to speak out against power structures and interests that prevent the flourishing of research and education in our field.

The Composers Desktop Project

Devon

A Composers' Viewpoint CDP members are deeply involved in the current huge shifts in music-making. As an organisation we place the emphasis on sound transformation in creative musical contexts. Our aim is to provide new computer tools for sound design, in which the emphasis is on a detailed and flexible access to the inner features of sounds. Our goal is to help composers work with sounds. To this end, numerous programs are semi-algorithmic in nature, such as the segmentation routines and the Texture Set, which shape whole multi-event passages of music – 'semi-algorithmic' in this context means ways to adjust both individual parameters and multiple events over time.) In other words, CDP is not just focused on 'DSP' functions (digital signal processing), nor on sequencing or audio editing, and not at all with sound synthesis: other software handles these things nicely. CDP focuses on transforming existing sounds (musique concrète) and how they might be shaped over time to create anything from a single complex sound or gesture, to an extended soundscape or composition. In doing this, we mainly adopt the composer's viewpoint and seek to create a mutually supportive environment in which practising composers can help each other, both in designing software tools and in using them effectively. We believe in and depend on the crucial importance of the composer's ability to hear music not only before it is written, but even before the means to produce it are available.
