For over 120 years, MRS Training & Rescue (formerly known as Mines Rescue Service), has developed specialist skills, experience and knowledge gained from working in difficult and potentially dangerous environments, to effect the rescue and escape of mine workers from underground. However, given the gradual decline of the coal mines over many years, culminating in the closure of the last deep coal mine in December 2015, we have been able to expand and diversify to meet the needs of today’s health and safety market. We have been able to secure long term success by leveraging our expertise, and have branched out from underground mining into providing unique rescue services, specialist equipment (some of which has been designed using practical expertise gathered on the job), consultancy and a comprehensive range of accredited health and safety related products, training and services to a wide range of industries, including nuclear, aerospace, manufacturing and utilities. Training and assessing customers' employees to safely enter, work and exit from confined spaces, is offered at all of our eight training centres, and can also be delivered at customers’ premises by using our mobile rigs. We have been involved with industry in developing the National Occupational Standards, and all the confined space suite of qualifications awarded by City & Guilds are available at our accredited training centres. We have also developed bespoke courses for specific industries such as the water industry.

I was born in Ohio and grew up in a small farming village before qualifying as a teacher and moving to England in 2003. After getting married, my husband and I moved back to his hometown in Cornwall. Outside of the clinic, you can find me exploring the local beaches and coastal paths (with a coffee, of course). I decided to return to my passion for caring for others in the health and fitness industry (my original career path prior to teaching) after dealing with work-related stress and suffering from chronic pain following a severe back injury. As a result, I have a special interest in the connection between mental health and how we feel pain. My goal is to help as many people as possible who are coping with injuries, pain, and/or stress by providing soft tissue therapy, which combines massage, education, and rehabilitation to help you take control of your pain or injury. I qualified as a Level 5 Soft Tissue Therapist after studying with the Institute of Sport & Remedial Massage (ISRM) at The Massage Training School in Exmouth. I have treated a wide variety of injuries, chronic pain, and musculoskeletal pain both in my clinic and for a short period prior to COVID, for the Camborne Rugby Football Club while assisting the lead physio.

Helen, the Head of Rowan, has worked in education for over twenty years, most of which has been in or associated with, inclusion and behaviour management. Having initially worked as an Education Welfare Officer, successfully raising school attendance in two of the most deprived areas of Scunthorpe, she then worked at High Ridge Secondary School, where she set up and ran the successful Nurture Group. High Ridge became The St Lawrence Academy, where Helen acted as the Lead Behaviour Professional for several years, developing, delivering and training (staff and students) anger management workshops and leading in Restorative Justice Practices, as well as running Summer School for KS2-to-KS3 transition. She then became Deputy Head of a local Alternative Provision, where her hard work, dedication and hands-on management style resulted in both improved behaviour and attendance, as well as a dramatic reduction in exclusions over a period of more than four years. She is a qualified counsellor and was Designated Safeguarding Lead in her capacity as Deputy Head. Helen brings this wealth of experience and skill which, coupled with the expertise and experience of the rest of the staff, will make Rowan Education a unique and successful school. She believes passionately that all children should have the right to education and to achieve their potential and that, with the appropriate support and encouragement, they can do so.

In an all through school, school parents can expect their son/daughter to transfer seamlessly from primary to secondary school. We now have three years of Ark primary students who have transferred to secondary. We are one and share the same values and expectations. Our aim is to ensure that all our pupils develop as high achieving, confident, articulate young people whose education fully equips them to go on to university or the career of their choice and this starts from an early age. This name originated from sitting in biology, daydreaming about anything other than biology, as the information went straight over my head. At school I thought I was below par, not smart, not capable. Which was a shame. I wasn’t interested in most of the subjects, and thus I didn’t do well and my expectations for my life lowered. Fast forward to my first job, a role in Marketing. It required me to work quietly on my own, building websites, brochures, flyers etc. I wasn’t very good at it. I realised that talking to other people, working in teams, with a unified goal in mind, motivated me.10 years in Recruitment has seen far more success than anything I’ve done previously. Why?
