Dove House Community Trust (DHCT) is renowned as the leading community organisation responsible for the delivery of front-line community services in the Bogside and Brandywell area of Derry City. Established in 1984, Dove House, has, for more than 30 years provided many vital services and support to the people of the Bogside, Brandywell and the wider Derry City Council area. The Management Board of Dove House is populated by a number of local residents as well as representation from different sectors including public, private, community & voluntary. Each individual member brings with them an array of skills, experience and knowledge from both a professional and local level. The inclusion of residents in the running and managing of Dove House ensures that all services provided are in line with local need; furthermore, these services are effective in bringing about measurable change in people’s lives. Many organisations throughout the city, for example Conradh na Gaeilge (now the beautiful Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin on Gt. James’ Street), The Nerve Centre, The Gasyard Development Trust, Gasyard Wall Féile and The Bogside & Brandywell Initiative to name a few were embryonic visions which took on a life of their own whilst housed within Dove House. Presently ... Back in the early days, the centre was staffed by a committed, passionate and enthusiastic team of volunteers who provided a range of education and arts classes to local people. Dove House now provides a professional Advice Service to people in need across the Council area; a thriving Youth Club as well as drop-in centre in the city centre; a hub for those wishing to to return to employment or education; advocacy for women suffering domestic abuse; and help with money management. Dove House also works in partnership with other organisations in the area. in its present form has a dedicated team of advisors, who are equally committed and passionate about the local area. The current team work to support families on a low income and those in our community, who are most vulnerable. Information is available on a wide range of programmes? that can help them during a hardship. The range of projects, currently running in Dove House will ensure that the most vulnerable in the community can get assistance that they are entitled to, whether they are disabled or elderly, or experiencing other hardships. The staff will assess what their challenges are and based on the results of that, offer any assistance that they can. /my name is Amanda and I’m an Abdominal Therapy Practitioner and Educator. I also offer Holistic massage and Energy work in the Tradition of the Maya. My story begins in the mists of time when I was raising my wonderful offspring. Being interested in complementary therapy I used this period in my life to learn about a variety of therapies and techniques that could help my children through their early years and beyond. When my children flew the nest, I felt the calling to become a complementary therapist and embarked on a life-changing journey. In 2005 on the insistence of a great friend Hilary Lewin, I attended an amazing class based on the work of Dr Rosita Arvigo. This workshop had a profound effect on my whole being. I felt the power of the work, I observed the changes in my body as I practised my abdominal massage at home. I could not believe that such a sweet simple technique could have such a profound effect. My journey had begun, I wanted to not only learn the technique but also understand why it seemed to help with so many health challenges. They say the right teacher will appear when the time is right and I have been blessed. I trained directly with Rosita Arvigo, the founder of the work I now offer in my clinic and the classroom. Understanding the similarities between Maya Medicine and Chinese medicine, in 2011, I travelled to Thailand and studied traditional Thai Massage with the renowned traditional healer, Bann Hom who lives in Chaing Mai, Northern Thailand. It did not surprise me to find her treating her community with an abdominal technique that was not a million miles from the work I knew and loved. I have been inspired by Gil Hedley, the brilliant anatomist who offers dissection classes for anyone who is interested in observing the anatomical connections within the human form. Marty Ryan – Love your Guts Seminars, taught me how to listen to my hands, his palpation classes revealed what was beneath the skin. Life is for learning and every belly I touch teaches me something new. And so, to now, in September 2020 working with a passionate group of educators and colleagues including Rosita Arvigo I became a founding member of the Abdominal Therapy Collective.

The minimum age to start learning to drive in the UK is seventeen. You will also need a Provisional Driver's Licence. There are two ways to apply for this. Provisional Licence: By Post Ask your local Post Office for a 'D1 Pack'. Complete the D1 Form and send it to the DVLA in Swansea. You will need to include a passport photo and original proof of your identity unless you have a modern 'biometric' passport (in which case you only need give your passport number). You can request that the D1 Pack be posted to you at https://www.gov.uk/dvlaforms Provisional Licence: Online Go to https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence and follow the instructions there. How Many Driving Lessons Will I Need? The Department of Transport carried out a survey of thousands of people who passed their practical test over a seven year period and published their findings in 2008. The average was 47 hours of driving lessons, with an average of 20 further hours practising with friends or relatives. Atlas recommend that your driving lessons are two hours long. If you intend to practice with a family member or friend please make sure that you are both aware of the law. When Do You Want Your Lessons To Take Place? At Atlas we're flexible: you decide when you would like to learn. We do recommend that you have your driving lessons at different times of day and also both during the week and at weekends. We will pick you up from your home, or we can meet you at work for a quick lunchtime lesson or for 'rush hour' practice. It's up to you. Choice of Instructors (ADIs) It's important that you feel relaxed and comfortable during your lessons and that you and your instructor 'get' each other. At Atlas we have a number of different ADIs, so we can offer you a choice of instructor in most of the areas we cover. How Soon Can I Take My Test? No-one is allowed to apply to take their Practical Driving Test without first passing a combined Theory and Hazard Perception Test (commonly referred to as 'the theory test'). You will need your Provisional Licence to book these tests, and you can book online at https://www.gov.uk/book-theory-test find out about the Theory & Practical Driving Tests 'Pass Plus': Advanced Driving Lessons It's not a cliche when instructors say that the real learning begins after you pass your driving test. Even if you drive very often you can normally expect it to be at least 6 months before you are the safest and best driver you can be. And it's a sad fact that new drivers - particularly young drivers - are far more likely to have an accident. Road Safety Charity Brake highlighted 2015 data from the DVLA and DfT which showed that, whilst new drivers from 17-19 made up only 1.5% of those licenced to drive in the UK, this age group was responsible (i.e. they were the driver) for 9% of accidents that involved serious injury or death. There are two main reasons: over-confidence and risk taking (including speeding); poor assessment of hazards. Be a Safer, Better Driver with Pass Plus To help new drivers the DVSA has developed the 'Pass Plus' training programme. There is no official test; instead, the assessment takes the form of five to six hours extra tuition covering: Town driving Busy high streets, especially at rush hour, present many challenges. Bad weather driving Rain and poor light increase the danger from hazards. Countryside driving Roads can be narrow, twisting and poorly surfaced. Night driving Things look very different at night. Driving as it becomes dark and the light changes every ten minutes can be challenging too. Dual carriageway driving More challenging than motorways in many regards, not least because you sometimes have to exit right across oncoming traffic. Motorway driving We also offer our own additional lessons specifically for this (see below). Pass Plus: What You Gain Pass Plus lessons with assessment are designed to help you gain quality experience behind the wheel, develop a positive driving style, and hopefully reduce the risk of you having an accident. On successful completion of the course you are issued with a certificate that entitles you to a discount on your insurance premium - as much as 50%, depending on your insurer. Motorway Driving Lessons Almost all new drivers feel most nervous at the prospect of driving on the motorway. Yet, once you become familiar with them, motorways are far less stressful places to be in charge of a car than your average high street! You are travelling at high speed, but everyone is going in the same direction and there are no pedestrians or parked vehicles to worry about. Atlas' motorway lessons are specially designed for newly qualified drivers. We will give you the confidence to go on the motorway on your own by giving you in-depth tuition on: using slip roads to get on and off the motorway; reading signs and reacting in good time; understanding junctions; driving at a constant high speed; and overtaking and changing lane.

Our story starts in the classroom, but unlike most CPR training companies, it doesn't end there. Our co-founder, Roy Shaw, was a classroom CPR instructor for many years before our company was born in 2003. Roy knew what he was doing was ambitious, so rather than do it on his own, he partnered with Paul Martin and Scott Andersen to help in the early years. Our new team now included a paramedic / CPR instructor, a web developer / marketer, and a graphic designer / video editor. You wouldn't be alone if CPR training makes you think of classrooms and manikins rather than a computer. And in 2003, this was even more true than today. But that didn't stop us from deciding to change everything. After all, CPR training was broken and we were determined to fix it. No more falling asleep in a 4-6 hour class. Why not learn from the comfort of your home. GROWING PAINS AND EARLY WINS Of course, there have been challenges. Nearly a third of Internet users were on dial-up in 2003 and YouTube hadn't been invented yet. But by 2007, things were beginning to change. And that's the year we launched the Internet's first fully video-based CPR course. At this point, we had certified around 80,000 students, our three founders went full-time on the business, and we hired our first two employees to support our customers and gain compliance approvals. Compliance challenges are what led us to create a blended CPR program in 2008. Although online courses are acceptable for many people, there are certain industries where hands-on skills practice is mandatory. First, we built a national instructor network to meet this need. Then, in 2014, we introduced live video conference evaluations and a low-cost SUMO manikin kit to offer our students in-home skills evaluations, making ProTrainings the most compliant (and convenient) CPR course available online. EXPANSION AND NEW VENTURES A lot has changed since the early days. Our team has grown to 35+ people across our U.S. and U.K. offices. We've certified well over a million people and counting. And our free Student CPR program has certified tens of thousands of high school students around the country. Our course catalog has also expanded beyond CPR to include courses such as Bloodborne Pathogens, HIPAA, Hazcom, Fire Safety, Ergonomics, Sexual Harassment, Pet First Aid, Continuing Education content, and more to come.
