Bike for Good is a charity and social enterprise which started in July 2010 in a small stall in Glasgow’s Barras market. With a few donated bikes, a cobbled-together tool kit and a team of volunteers with a huge amount of passion and drive, Bike for Good (then known as Glasgow Bike Shed) was born! We now have three thriving Community Hubs in Glasgow and an amazing team of 42 staff members and 50 + volunteers who are changing thousands of lives through cycling. Many of our wonderful volunteers have shared their experiences of working with Bike for Good through our online case studies. Bike for Good provides access to low cost but good quality bikes whilst diverting tonnes of waste from landfill. These bikes are kindly donated by members of the public and are then refurbished and sold in our two Community Hubs. Find out more about how to donate your bike. On average, our team of mechanics refurbish over 1000 bikes per year, diverting tonnes of waste from landfill while also providing access to affordable bikes to the public. Find out more about how to buy a refurbished bike. As well as the environmental impact of this work, the income from bike sales helps to fund our work in the community. To keep your bike in tip-top condition, our expert mechanics offer a comprehensive bike maintenance and repair service. The aim is to keep you cycling all year round. In addition, we offer a comprehensive programme of inclusive projects which promote, support and encourage greater levels of cycling. Cycling has a multitude of benefits for society, from environmental improvements to health promotion and financial savings. We have created a series of projects and services which seek to highlight this to the public and fill a gap in current provision. Recently we launched a subsidiary organisation (in partnership with Vélogik) called Motion Forward which provides business to business service and fleet maintenance. Our Dawlish campus is situated in the coastal town of Dawlish near Exeter. It is a short walk from the town centre and the golden beach, with excellent transport links via bus or the Great western train line to Exeter, Plymouth and beyond. At Dawlish we provide learning programmes for around 80 learners, a small number of whom enjoy the residential experience in our onsite shared property, and in single and shared flats and houses in the nearby area. Our Torpoint campus is situated just a short walk from the ferryport and enjoys beautiful views of the River Tamar and beyond. We attract learners from both Plymouth and Cornwall to study here. Students benefit from accessing our local Torpoint community, but also take part in the huge range of trips and activities that Plymouth has to offer. At Oakwood Torpoint we provide learning for up to 25 learners. Torpoint is a day student only campus. Our newest campus, Oakwood Yate, is located in Yate, South Glos. with excellent transport links to Bristol and beyond. The campus benefits from being centrally located in the bustling town centre of Yate with a wide range of shops and leisure facilities providing excellent work experience and community access for our learners. At Oakwood Yate we provide learning for up to 15 learners. Yate is a day student only campus. The College’s focus is to develop the knowledge and skills of every learner to prepare them for independent life, living and work. We provide individualised and bespoke learning programmes that follow the pathways to adulthood, and include employment related qualifications and work experience. The College was inspected by OFSTED in September 2018, and judged to be good in all areas and Outstanding for Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare (PDBW), with inspectors describing the learners as…” making excellent progress in their personal development and behaviour. My name is Sue Williamson, and I have loved dogs (and many other animals for that matter) as far back as I can remember. One of my first memories is laying under my Grandparents Belfast sink with my Auntie’s German Shepherd – Tara. When I was 4 years old, a relative gave me a little black poodle, called Tina. Tina was one of the reasons I wanted to work with dogs when I grew up. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way that got pushed to one side and I finished up working in administration. Working up from secretarial positions to administration management, I left employment in January 2016 to follow my childhood dream of working with animals, and in particular – dogs. After I lost Tina, I had to wait over 20 years to get another dog, although I interacted with dogs on a regular basis. My next dog was Kelly, a black collie cross. She was the most placid and loving dog. Since Kelly I have been guardian to six dogs two of whom I have had to say goodbye Kira my gorgeous black Labrador who we lost in 2018 due to a lung tumour, and Raffi, Lemon and White working cocker spaniel who was killed in a road accident in 2016. I currently have four dogs, Taz, a male black show cocker spaniel, – who was the reason I got a deeper interest in training and Tellington TTouch Training, Ritzi, a miniature parti Poodle (black and white), Chic, a brown miniature poodle, (pronounced Sheek), and new boy on the block Lemon Roan Working Cocker Spaniel Talis. I have done training with all my dogs, including basic obedience, gundog training, platform training and agility. I have competed at agility with both Taz (grade 5), and Kira (grade 3) and Raffi (Grade 4). Although I no longer participate in Agility, I have taken up Canine Hoopers with Talis and started to compete.
