Tutor: Joseph Wilson During this 4-week course, we will use conventional black and white analogue materials in conjunction with non-conventional techniques to create images that stradle ordinary photographic representation and alternative vision. We will deviate from standard darkroom production through the practical exploration of a range of techniques such as Sabattier printing, bas relief printing, cameraless photography, and various methods for pushing and pulling film. These otherworldly techniques – many of which have been the basis for contemporary digital manipulation tools – offer abundant possibility for alternative photographic vision, where emphasis is placed on the transformative potential of darkroom work. This course would be the perfect follow up from our Intro to B&W or Colour Darkroom courses. All materials including photographic film and paper will be provided during this course. However, participants are encouraged to bring along some of their own black and white negatives. Camera know-how and prior darkroom experience are required for this course. Course Outline Week 1: Pushing and Pulling Film We will begin by considering non-conventional ways in which we can rate and process our films, and the various effects of doing so. Presentation and discussion on the uses of these techniques by artists. Shooting 5×4 film at various ISO ratings Using adjustments in time, temperature, dilution, and agitation to Push & Pull the film. Week 2: Possibilities in Print This week we will create prints from our negatives using alternative techniques. Review results in negatives and make contact prints. Sabattier effect printing Multiple exposure printing Bas Relief Printing Week 3: Cameraless Photography We will explore the possibilities of directly exposing through objects and ‘resists’ onto photographic paper. We will cover: Photograms Chemigrams Week 4: Lith Printing An introduction to Lith printing and the possibilities it affords us. A presentation on the history and uses of Lith printing Lith Printing from our negatives Combining non-conventional printing techniques with lith. Courses are subject to minimum enrolment. Description Mythology Diploma Mythology comes from the Greek word mythos, which means 'the people's story, and logos which stands for 'speech' or 'word'. As the story suggests, it involves the study of fables and tales, often sacred, and interpretations of these stories. These stories are often culturally relevant and are referred to as myths. They mainly deal with various elements of the human condition like good and evil, the concept of suffering, the origins of humans, how places are given names, cultural values, animals, cultural traditions, the meaning that life and death hold, life after death, and God or dogs. These myths reflect the values and beliefs of the subjects of a particular culture to whom they belong. Elearncollege offers a Mythology Diploma course that introduces various definitions of the term 'mythology' given by scholars. It provides ways in which the multiple tales about deities, heroes and monsters can be approached. It differentiates myths from other story-telling stories, like fairy tales and fables, and opens the discussion on the relationship between myths and history. Myths of a cultural group tell stories about their ancestors, the origins of the world and humans, the gods, heroes with superhuman powers that a god has bestowed, and other supernatural beings like nymphs and mermaids and satyrs. They also include descriptions of the origins and nuances of customs practised for long periods. They may also be seen as attempts to explain certain natural events like sunrise, sunset, the moon cycle and seasons, and thunder and lightning storms. Myths are integral to civilization and are found all over the world. A belief framework similar to the idea of 'mythology' existed long before humans could communicate these beliefs in language. Carl Jung was a proponent of the view that myths are an essential element of our psyche that desires to discover order and meaning in this world that often presents itself as meaningless and filled with chaos. The Mythology Diploma course offered by Elearncollege analyses the role played by women in past societies and looked at the representation of women in myths. It talks about how motherhood is portrayed, the classical idea of females, and the concept of women being described as victims and villains. The Mythology Diploma course deals with mythology's ideas like death and love and offers explanations. The course will give you a chance to learn about the most remarkable love stories and the meaning that these stories hold through the stories of Apollo and Aphrodite, Psyche and Eros, Eurydice and Orpheus, and the story of Pygmalion. Through the Mythology Diploma course, you will dive deep into tales and myths of ancient times, where you will be introduced to various situations and characters that will leave you astonished. You will be able to uncover the myths' meanings by gaining an insight into why they have such incredulous longevity. The Mythology Diploma course will prove appealing to those interested in mythology and history, as well as any individual who desires to know more about the human condition, as that would be revealed through the study of myths that have remained relevant to this day. Description Endometriosis Awareness Diploma The medical condition known as Endometriosis affects about 2%-10% of women of a particular age range- those who can conceive. It is a medical gynaecological condition that is quite common. The etymological root of the term is 'endometrium', a name for the lining tissue of the uterus. The tissue known as the endometrium builds up and gets thicker during a menstrual cycle. These tissues shed and come out as part of period blood if the woman does not get pregnant. When women have Endometriosis, tissues that look like endometrium develop not inside but outside the uterus. These can be on other organs of the reproductive system in the pelvic area or the woman's abdominal cavity. As the menstrual cycle goes on and hormonal changes occur, these tissues respond to the hormones every month. As endometrial tissues build up, they do too. This results in bleeding in the pelvis, although in small amounts. This can cause inflammation and swelling, and subsequent scarring in the normal tissues around them. If the ovary is affected, a fibrous cyst known as a blood blister may be formed, a condition known as endometrioma. The Endometriosis Awareness Diploma course has been developed to equip learners with a clear understanding of this medical condition that affects a significant percentage of women. The Endometriosis Awareness Diploma course includes the causes, symptoms, and how these symptoms show up. The course also consists of the diagnosis and treatment of the condition. The Endometriosis Awareness Diploma course starts by discussing what exactly Endometriosis is. This also provides general information about menstrual cycles. There are different kinds of Endometriosis, which will be looked at along with their causes, the signs and symptoms, their different stages, and the various risk factors that come with the medical condition. Other topics, like the diagnosis process, including the available methods and benefits, are also covered in the Endometriosis Awareness Diploma course. The Endometriosis Awareness Diploma course deepens into laparoscopy- the most common practice in diagnosing Endometriosis. Other treatments such as hormonal treatment and surgical processes for treating inflammation or removing tumours caused by Endometriosis will also be discussed. The Endometriosis Awareness Diploma course also provides basic knowledge regarding analgesic treatment and treatments that use artificial hormones for follicle stimulation, surgical procedures that help treat infertility, IVF (In-Vitro Fertilization), intrauterine insemination, and Assisted Reproduction Technology. These processes will be learnt in-depth along with their statistics regarding success. Changes in diet that can be made to alleviate endometriosis symptoms and yoga routines that can relieve the symptoms will also be looked at. The course includes case studies to learn from real-life cases and better know symptoms and treatments. This course can teach you many things about this medical condition, including some of which are listed below: 1 Develop an understanding of Endometriosis, the different kinds, their causes and symptoms, various stage of the condition, and the risk factors involved. 2 Learn about the diagnosis and treatment of the condition.
