Responsible and Irresponsible Project Management

By IIL Europe Ltd

Responsible and Irresponsible Project Management Project managers have begun to embrace the concept that they have a responsibility beyond value creation for a narrow group of stakeholders. Since the early 2000s, the adoption of agile moved the focus of PM from company to customer value creation. Responsible PM seeks to extend our perspective to encourage Societal value creation (positive long-term environmental and social impacts) and reduce irresponsible PM, which is societal value destruction. Responsible Project Managers take ownership of environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and enact them in their daily practice in an ethical manner. In this way, Responsible PM is differentiated from Corporate Social Responsibility, which is focused on organizational level representations and processes of enacting societal and community responsibility.

Strategic Initiative Project Management: Using Projects to Create Business Value

By IIL Europe Ltd

Strategic Initiative Project Management: Using Projects to Create Business Value The business side of projects has grown significantly. Project management is used on projects related to strategic planning, and project managers are reporting to the senior-most levels of management and even into corporate boardrooms. Traditional project management practices that have existed for decades may not be appropriate for strategic initiative projects. Project managers must learn how to use a new family of metrics capable of measuring business value, creativity and innovation. Executives that sit on project governance committees or are part of the Portfolio Project Management Office must understand how to use these new metrics to make informed decisions. This and other IIL Learning in Minutes presentations qualify for PDUs. Some titles, such as Agile-related topics may qualify for other continuing education credits such as SEUs, or CEUs. Each professional development activity yields one PDU for one hour spent engaged in the activity. Some limitations apply and can be found in the Ways to Earn PDUs section that discusses PDU activities and associated policies. Fractions of PDUs may also be reported. The smallest increment of a PDU that can be reported is 0.25. This means that if you spent 15 minutes participating in a qualifying PDU activity, you may report 0.25 PDU. If you spend 30 minutes in a qualifying PDU activity, you may report 0.50 PDU.

VPMMA: Building Our Future Project Management Workforce

By IIL Europe Ltd

VPMMA: Building Our Future Project Management Workforce A tremendous project management talent pool exists but is unknown to many: Since every mission or exercise a military leader is tasked with is a temporary endeavor expected to produce unique goods, services or results, this means they have a significant amount of project management experience. An estimated 58% of the 250,000 service members that transition back into the civilian workforce each year are military leaders, i.e. high enough rank to be consistently tasked with projects, meaning we could consider an additional 145,000 experienced individuals a year for our project management roles! However, these PM candidates lack context about the civilian project environment, which presents a unique opportunity for mentorship, professional development and placement of these talented, experienced, proven project managers.Since January 2018, a collaboration between two project management companies has matched experienced PMs from industry with Military and Veteran PMs entering the profession, with astounding results! In just over a year, the Veteran Project Manager Mentor Alliance (VPMMA) has attracted 200+ participants across 29 states and 5 countries, and built partnerships with industry leading organizations such as Arizona State University, International Institute for Learning, Sensei Project Solutions and PM Master Prep.
