Taiji & Qigong (London & Kent)

taiji & qigong (london & kent)

Tai Chi is both an exercise for improving and maintaining good health, as well as a martial art designed for self-defence. It is also often spoken about as a form of ‘meditation in motion’ or ‘meditation in movement’ as it promotes a sense of inner peace and tranquillity.  Whether you refer to it as ‘T’ai Chi’ (the Wade Giles method of Romanising words), or ‘Taiji’ (the Pinyin or modern way), it is short for ‘T’ai Chi Ch’uan’ or Taijiquan, which both can be translated as ‘Supreme Ultimate Fist’.  Tai Chi is a popular form of exercise for people of all ages and abilities, offering a wide range of physical, mental and emotional benefits to those who practice it. There is a range of Tai Chi benefits to enjoy, whatever your age.      Depending to a certain extent on the type of Tai Chi being practiced, it is considered very safe for people of all ages, as it exercises joints and muscles without placing too much stress on them.   Therefore, this also makes Tai Chi an ideal form of exercise for people with either rheumatoid or osteoarthritis, as well as offering a wide range of other benefits: Relief of stress, anxiety, tension and depression, increased levels of relaxation, calmness and confidence, gently improved muscle tone, co-ordination, balance and good posture.   Research also suggests Tai Chi reduces falls in the elderly Tai Chi is effectively having your own personal gym without needing any equipment (unless you’re learning movements with weapons), and you can practice it either in groups or on your own.  There is a range of Tai Chi styles to suit your needs.  Whilst Tai Chi is often talked about as being an ancient martial art, it first appeared in records from the 1700s onwards.  Whilst there are many different family styles, there are five major styles practiced throughout China and the West: Chen style, Yang style, Wu-Hao style, Wu style, Sun style to name but a few.  At Taiji and Qigong, we teach a wide variety of Tai Chi forms, as well as Pushing Hands, Da Lu, Applications of the Forms, and Fa-Jing techniques.   If you’re interested in taking Tai Chi classes in London or Kent, take a look at our Classes & Prices to find what you’re looking for.

Dr. Amanda Bowen Yoga & Retreats

Hi there, I am a yoga teacher with a PhD in Metaphysical Science, a certified holistic life coach and spiritual counsellor, an organiser of wellness retreats, a teacher on the global meditation app, Insight Timer and creator of Lovable Yoga Clothing As well as my organic clothing line, I’m proud to be an Independent Consultant for the amazing certified B corporation, Arbonne. Their Mind.Body.Skin products provide clean vegan, cruelty free skincare, beauty and nutrition that has made my life so much easier and my skin clearer! Conscious living is ingrained into me now and allows me to support companies that are not harming the planet and its inhabitants. There is no Planet B! Being diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome then post traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety fifteen years ago left me unable to function. I led myself down the holistic route to get my health and, ultimately, my life back, and along the way stepped into my role as a teacher and wellness guide centred around yin yoga. I discovered I have a skill in teaching and happiness in sharing my practice with others. This powerful yet very human journey has so far involved nearly six hundred hours of Yoga Alliance teacher training, including an advanced yin yoga teacher training course and yoga for trauma recovery. My intensive studies have included hatha, ashtanga, vinyasa, yin, yin yang and aerial yoga. Of these, yin yoga was the completing piece of the jigsaw for me. Yin is where my healing finds its natural flow. While I was being treated for depression many years ago, I developed a fascination with how the human brain works and the connection between the mind and body. What my consultant shared with me was incredible, and I needed to know more. This drive to understand more led me into gaining my PhD in Metaphysical Science. The fact that I had gone from being unable to function, to completing a PhD, was beyond any belief I had about myself. I never imagined I would be able to use my brain, and heal my body and mind, to the extent that I have. The intensity and depth of my yoga training and academic studying and the way in which they come together in my sessions has created my unique style of teaching yin yoga. Postures, nurture and calm are combined with the brain science behind the practice and meticulous preparation, bringing wisdom and learning from many different sources into each session. Dr. Amanda Bowen Yoga Instructor Dr. Amanda Bowen Yoga Teacher Counselling on stress management and how to mitigate against the devastating long-term effects it can have is woven into my teaching. I bring healing stillness into people’s lives in order for them to better manage their challenges and find – and enjoy – the balance that is so often missing. My inspirational and educational yoga classes, workshops and worldwide transformational retreats are for everyone.

Accessible Yoga with Sarah

Hi, my name’s Sarah! My pronouns are they/she and I’m currently based in Cheltenham (UK) where I live with my partner. I’ve been practicing yoga for just over 6 years and I immediately fell in love with the practice. Whether it was the physical benefits from my asana (posture) practice, or the mental benefits from pranayama (breath work) and meditation, yoga changed my life (I realise how incredibly cheesy and cliché that sounds, but it’s true!)I completed my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2019 – the experience was incredible and it completely changed my personal practice and influenced the practices I want to share. My goal is to teach yoga which is accessible for everybody – regardless of ability, age, gender, or background. I want to create classes & workshops that are gender neutral, suitable for people who are neurodiverse, accessible for all physical abilities and free of diet culture. As well as my 200 hour training, I’ve also completed Accessible Yoga training and my 85 hour Pregnancy and Post-Natal Yoga Teacher Training. I’m now also in the process of working through my 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training. You can find out more about that on my Qualifications & Development page. Hi, I’m Sarah (they/she). I want to improve people’s lives by sharing the benefits of yoga – whether that’s by allowing rest, reducing stress or through movement. I offer accessible yoga classes, including mat-based yoga, chair yoga, bed yoga, pregnancy yoga, and restorative yoga – to enable anyone to practice yoga. My style of teaching is centred around giving you choice and autonomy in your practice. I’ll guide you through a sequence but give you a variety of options so you can find what feels right for your body. A lot of people think that yoga is what you see on social media: flexibility, handstands on beaches and contorting yourself into pretzel shapes, but it’s not! It’s about finding stillness in your mind and connecting with your body and breath. In an age where everything feels like it’s go-go-go, I genuinely believe that everyone deserves to find some rest and stillness. If you, or someone you know, is interested in practicing with me, or learning more, please use the links below to access further information!
