About Our Founder & Our Values How Engineering For Kids Is Changing the World When looking to register her six and eight-year-old children for engineering programs, Dori Roberts noticed that there were very few options available. Soon, Engineering For Kids was born. Roberts opened her first location in 2009 and, in 2011, she started franchising her company. Over this short time, Engineering For Kids has opened more than 150 locations in over 35 different countries! Interested in being your own boss and providing kids with the opportunity to learn in a fun way? Call (540) 277-4331 to inquire about our franchise opportunities! Before It All Began With 11 years of experience teaching engineering at a high school level, Dori Roberts has an extensive background in technology and math education. As a teacher and a mother, she was able to recognize how much engineering, science, and math programs were needed. During this time, she began an after-school club that took part in multiple science-based and engineering-based competitions. The program attained 180 students and won numerous state championships, giving Roberts the idea to create similar programs adapted for a broader age demographic. She brought the first Engineering For Kids programs to a local elementary school, where they were a hit. She received such a positive response that she decided to leave teaching to devote all of her time developing Engineering For Kids. The Program’s Success Today Since its inception, this program has changed the lives of more than 350,000 students. Our franchisees share Roberts’ passion for Engineering For Kids and we all understand the need for science, technology, engineering, and math enrichment that’s engaging and fun. At Engineering For Kids, the ultimate goal has always been to help kids have fun in an educational way. By customizing activities that tack onto what they’re already learning in their school curriculum, their knowledge of the subject matter solidifies, all while they build a variety of important social skills. Our program is the best way for children to befriend others that share similar passions. Call (540) 277-4331 to learn more about us and our values!

Yoga With Debs

yoga with debs

I have been practising yoga since 2001 and Qigong since 2017. My practice includes pranayama, yoga nidra, seasonal flow, vinyasa flow, yin and qigong. All practices have influenced my physical, emotional and mental wellbeing and have been life changing. I am passionate about creating opportunities for others to experience the benefits yoga and qigong can bring. My journey has been strongly influenced by the instruction and support I have received from the teachers who have inspired me and whose encouragement ultimately led me to train as a teacher. My teaching journey started with teaching children yoga; having always enjoyed working with children and holding a firm belief in making things better and easier for them, it seemed natural to combine two of my passions – yoga and children. If only I had known then how simple breathing activities could help calm my mind and balancing as a tree could help focus my mind…..perhaps exams wouldn’t have been so stressful and bullying not been so distressing. I now teach all age groups from babies to teens and adults, including children with additional needs. My classes are influenced by the styles of yoga I have practised over the years and the teachers who have inspired me. I teach from the heart and with a sense of humour. I believe yoga is creative, fun and educational, suitable for all ages and capabilities. Yoga gives us the understanding and practical applications to be the best people we can be and to live by our values; it is an honour to have this practice in my life. I am a Yoga Alliance Registered Teacher, completing my 200 hours with Seasonal Yoga Academy in Glasgow. I trained with Birthlight to teach babies and toddlers, and holds certifications in children’s yoga with Breathe and Be You, and yoga for additional needs, completed with Special Yoga. A huge thank you to all my incredible teachers who have inspired me, encouraged me and taught me. The London Suzuki Group ( LSG ) was founded in 1972 and was the first group in the United Kingdom to teach music by the Suzuki Method. With 60 qualified teachers and over 600 children currently receiving tuition, the LSG runs individual and group classes, orchestral and chamber music courses, workshops and an annual residential summer course at Bryanston School in Dorset. The group offers instruction in violin, viola, cello, piano, flute, recorder and voice. Public and private concerts are regularly organised at venues throughout London and elsewhere, providing much more than the opportunity to learn an instrument. Children and parents form lasting friendships. Parents and teachers are able to share experience and ideas. Music, and the love of music, becomes a natural part of the life of the whole family. Talent is not a prerequisite The Suzuki approach stimulates and develops musical abilities inherent in all children. Despite its sustained record of success exemplified in the many distinctions won by LSG students in music examinations, competitions and scholarships to major schools and conservatoires, the LSG’s overriding achievement is the provision of joy through music making, and the enrichment of the lives of the families involved in the learning process. The One School of Dance

Being a former dancer, classical dancer, it informed me as a human being just in terms of the grace I guess. Ballet is a very graceful form of art. You also become very aware of your body and your mind and your body is working in conjunction. That kind of helps you in acting as well. It is not only using your mind, it is like making your own mind communicate this character into your body so that you can bring it to life and physicalize it. Cara began dancing at a very young age taking part in ballet, tap, modern jazz, street dance, lyrical and musical theatre lessons throughout all of her childhood. She went on to study Sport at college alongside doing her teacher training within dance. Cara then went on to study musical theatre and dance at a full time professional college, alongside teaching dance at the weekend. After having to pull out of college with a serious injury she decided being a professional performer wasn’t for her as she LOVED every second of teaching, so focussed all of her time on gaining 10 teaching qualifications within the IDTA. Alongside teaching for nearly half of her life, Cara has also taken part in many amateur dramatic companies performing in musicals, worked for professional dance companies in shows and events and completed many training courses including physical literacy, nutrition, Zumba, exercise to music, and smoking cessation. She has a background of working with families and children in helping them live a healthier lifestyle as part of a Derby County Community Trust program and continues to work with DCCT delivering sessions for different programs they run. 14 years of teaching dance has given Cara lots of experience in working with a wide variety of children, including those with behavioural and learning difficulties. She has worked in many primary and secondary schools across Derby and Nottingham and continues to do so with pride. A fact about Cara: Alongside running The One School of Dance, she is a mummy to two small children (so please be patient with her).

These experiential learning programmes build on a simulated workplace, with strong tutor support to ensure that students have an enjoyable learning experience. Our tutors are all logistics and supply chain professionals, from a range of backgrounds spanning commercial, humanitarian and military sectors. All are driven by one vision – to help students through to successful completion of their programmes. We want you to ask the questions when you need help and guidance. Customer service and support for our students is at the heart of our business. Our Programmes use the innovative ‘competence model’ approach, which emphasizes application of skills, as opposed to the examination of knowledge. At the start of their course, the student is placed into a realistic scenario in which they have to advise on and manage logistics functions. Throughout the programmes, candidates are supported by tutors who are experienced in commercial or humanitarian logistics. The team at LLA also assess candidates’ assignments and determine when they are ready to proceed to the next unit. The European Supply Chain Award for Excellence in Training and Professional Development is awarded for projects that have resulted in improvements to the supply chain via strategic use of training and development programmes. In 2011, the award was won by the partnership of the Fritz Institute, CILT and LLA for the Certification in Humanitarian Logistics (CHL) programme. LLA is also an approved Learning Provider for the Enhanced Learning Credits scheme, designed to provide assistance to qualifying British Military service personnel in gaining a nationally recognised qualification.
