St Dominic's Sixth Form College

st dominic's sixth form college

Middlesex

I am pleased to welcome you to the St Dominic’s website. We are a 16 to 18 co-educational Catholic College, situated in Harrow on the Hill, North West London. We specialise in delivering high quality level 3 courses, offering some 29 different A-levels and BTEC courses, suited to the needs of all our learners. St Dominic’s has provided post 16 education in Harrow since 1979 and over that period of time has developed specialist teaching and support that is recognised for its excellence in the local area and beyond. In our last inspection, we were judged to be an ‘outstanding’ College and have been awarded many national accolades over recent years. The campus gives us a university feel and allows students to concentrate on their studies and to make the very best use of our superb academic facilities. The two years of study post 16 are the most important of any to date in a young person’s educational journey. Post 16 courses remain a benchmark qualification. When students arrive with us in September each year it is my expectation that they will work hard from day one in order to fulfil the demands of their courses. The support both in and out of the classroom is exemplary and providing the partnership between student, College and home are right then they will be successful with us and achieve highly at the end of the two year programme. We provide all our students with the best opportunity to achieve the highest possible examination grades as well as to develop spiritually and personally. We are a confidently Catholic institution, clear in our beliefs and values and the importance of Jesus Christ in our daily lives. We are also welcoming of other faith groups and believe that our diverse faith community is enriching and makes us the very distinctive community that we are. We give priority to students from our two partner schools, Salvatorian College and Sacred Heart Language College. We then offer places to Catholics from the local area and to other faith groups who wish to pursue their sixth form education in a Christian context and who will support the ethos and mission of our College. It is a tremendous privilege to lead this community. Our students are hard-working, dedicated and ambitious for their futures and my staff team are wholly committed to achieving excellence for every one of our young people with whom they work each day.

Carre's Grammar School

Sleaford

I am delighted to welcome you to Carre’s Grammar School, which is an over-subscribed selective Academy in the market town of Sleaford and a founding partner of the Robert Carre Trust. We have 800 students on roll; boys only 11-16, and co-educational in the Sixth Form. The school has long been synonymous with excellence and the school’s reputation for providing a first rate all-round education for local students has been strengthened even further over recent years. Our academic results speak for themselves while our achievements in Sport, Music and other activities are outstanding. We have been recognised as a Good school with Outstanding features by Ofsted and were delighted with this outcome, which recognised the strengths of the school and supported our own perceived areas for improvement. We have been recognised as one of the top schools in the country based on our performance in the last few years, and students have regularly accepted offers for Oxbridge and the top Universities, whilst others have gone onto apprenticeships or employment. It is our ambition that Carre’s students should leave school with an enthusiasm for learning which will last them a lifetime. By encouraging creativity and originality alongside honesty, sensitivity and compassion we believe that our students will develop the capacity to meet the challenges of the modern world and lead happy and fulfilling lives. The friendly, cheerful atmosphere of the school helps our students enjoy learning and, as they grow into young men and women, we enable them to take increasing responsibility for themselves and for others around them. Learning can only take place successfully in a caring and orderly community and we provide an environment in which the young people are expected to work hard and share in the ethos and values of the school. Our expectations of behaviour are high and we aim to support each child through their school career so that they make the best of their talents. We are committed to the belief that it is very important to offer as many opportunities as possible to our students to gain experience from learning outside the classroom. An extensive array of enrichment and extra-curricular activities is offered. Partnerships have been developed locally, nationally and internationally which extend opportunities for all. At best, the website only gives you a flavour of this remarkable school, a school proud of its heritage yet excited by its continued development, growth and innovation, so I invite you to visit us to fully appreciate what the school offers.

Ranelagh School

Berkshire,

The opportunity to educate other people’s children is a rare privilege, bringing with it a huge responsibility to provide the best all-round education possible as we aim to prepare young people for happiness and success in their adult lives. At Ranelagh we take this responsibility extremely seriously. We care about the individual and pride ourselves in the warmth of a community in which all our students feel valued. We live in exciting and fast changing times and this means that providing an outstanding, progressive and well-rounded education is more important than ever. Of course examination results matter and at Ranelagh our students consistently achieve excellent results in all areas of the curriculum, giving them access to the top universities in the UK and overseas. In its latest Ofsted inspection report of March 2015, Ranelagh is judged to be an outstanding school that ‘provides an excellent education for all of its students, preparing them well for their futures and for life in modern Britain.’ However, this is just one aspect of the education at Ranelagh and students are supported to show ambition both within and beyond the classroom. As a Church of England School, supported by the diocese of Oxford, education at Ranelagh is provided within the context of Christian belief and practice. In its latest SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) report of April 2019, Ranelagh is referred to as ‘a school in which a deeply held, strongly Christian vision shapes all aspects of its work’; the school is described as a place in which that vision is lived out as ‘a harmonious, vibrant, and successful learning community’. This is a happy school in which we encourage an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promote Christian values through the experiences we offer each individual. School should be fun and happy children are more likely to be successful. We see it as our responsibility to bring out our students’ talents, to broaden their interests and to develop their personal qualities. The Ranelagh Student Learner Profile qualities underpin everything that we do and are an integral part of our culture and ethos. We aim to foster confidence, resilience, curiosity, creativity, empathy and independence so that students are ready to make a really positive contribution to their wider community. Tradition is important at Ranelagh and still shapes some of our guiding principles but we seek to build on the past while looking to the future. This is, and will remain, a forward-thinking school that enthusiastically embraces innovation and new opportunity. I hope that you will accept my invitation to visit Ranelagh. It is a truly remarkable school, and it will be a privilege to welcome you here.

Sounds Together

sounds together

Huntingdon

Sounds Together is a complete, systematic, synthetic phonics programme for use in Reception and KS1. The Programme is the 'step-up' from 'Letters and Sounds'. It provides a fresh, thorough and systematic approach to teaching and learning phonics that builds on previous professional experience and understanding, without requiring teachers to 'unlearn' the positive principles and methods of 'Letters and Sounds'. Sounds Together has its roots in 'Letters and Sounds', but has been extensively developed and creatively elaborated in the light of all the feedback and learning from the thousands of schools that used 'Letters and Sounds' in the national 'Communication, Language and Literacy Development Programme' (CLLD). Sounds Together is the only fully DFE approved phonics programme to draw on this knowledge base. Sounds Together, with its strength of structure, guidance and support, makes phonics teaching and learning consistent, engaging and effective from its beginning in YR, right through to KS1. Some key features Sounds Together sets out the complete sequence of all the phonic knowledge and skills that need to be taught to meet the requirements of the new National Curriculum. It provides strong classroom support for teachers because it includes fully detailed planning for each session of the Programme in Reception and KS1. The planning has been carefully designed to ensure that previous learning is progressive and cumulative and is repeatedly revisited and reinforced. The planning is completely integrated with a full suite of on-screen resources for the interactive whiteboard (Smart Boards only). It's easy to use because the planning fully describes each step of the teaching sequence for each day's phonics session. It's engaging for children because the teaching resources for each session include vivid interactive whiteboard materials that will capture children's attention and keep it focused on what they need to learn. It minimises the amount of time needed to prepare for each phonics session, because all the IWB materials needed are immediately ready for use for every single daily phonics session. The Programme includes an electronic library of decodable captions, sentences and other short texts that can be printed out as handy-sized reading cards. The Programme includes the materials children need to practise and apply their phonic knowledge and skills. There is also a wealth of extra IWB resources that can be used for additional practice, including materials for individual or group work. All the Sounds Together materials can be used with a complete class or smaller groups. The Programme is provided on disc, with an individual school licence that allows the school to make unlimited lifetime use of the materials, provided only that none of those materials are not shared, copied or passed on to a third party.

Calderstones School

Liverpool

I am exceptionally proud to lead and work in such a richly diverse school community in which students with different languages, cultures and religions learn together in harmony. The school's comprehensive nature is something that we value immensely. Our students are encouraged to explore, discover and question through a range of exciting learning opportunities both within and outside the classroom. The staff endeavour to provide a calm and stimulating environment where good behaviour and mutual respect is modelled by everyone and where everyone is valued. We work closely with parents/carers and the wider community to ensure the success of our students. We believe that children deserve the best possible chances in life and that they learn best when there are strong links between home and school. Over the last few years we have spoken constantly about raised expectations and we will continue to push this throughout this academic year, particularly as we look to re-set and recalibrate on the back on the impact of the pandemic. In every aspect of school life, we will raise the bar for students and staff with the view that 'nobody rises to low expectations'. In terms our curriculum delivery, student achievement and progress, their involvement in school and community life, the ways in which students wear the uniform and present their work with pride, the ways in which they speak to each other and the behaviours that they demonstrate within the school and the community in which it resides ... in all of these ways, our expectations will be more ambitious and explicit than ever before. To this end, we have developed a ‘Manifesto for Change’ which sets out the ways in which we aim to continue our journey to excellence and identifies the long-term priorities for the school. One of our main priorities this year will be to ensure, as far as we can, that no child is left behind and that every child is challenged by the curriculum that we have in place. Students should find things difficult, although not impossible, at times. They should struggle at times and be expected to think deeply about the work that they do. They shouldn’t be getting everything right all of the time; if they are, the work is too easy and they’re not being challenged. None of this means that they shouldn’t be enjoying their learning; being challenged can be enjoyable. The curriculum is the bread and butter of our educational offer and should be inspiring a real thirst for learning; we can only do this through supporting and challenging. I hope you enjoy finding out more about our school by browsing our website. Visits are encouraged and welcomed; we would be delighted to show you around our wonderful school.
