Northampton Academy is a 'Good and Improving' school (Ofsted 2019), and we serve the needs of our 1700 students, their families and the local community. We are a successful, vibrant, welcoming and inclusive 11-18 Academy. Although we are oversubscribed, we are non-selective. We provide an education with character, encompassing our core values of Respect, Determination and Ambition alongside our character values of Tolerance and Integrity; which are central to our decision-making. We ensure that these values run through our policies, appointments and all our interactions with the young people. We are successful at Key Stage 4 and 5 in both attainment and progress terms and have excellent rates of progression to University. Many of our students go to Oxbridge and Russell Group Universities. We pride ourselves on communication. Replies to parents are usually the same day and always within two working days utilising our strong pastoral structure.

As a comprehensive academy our main aim is to ensure that our students achieve their potential – from Year 7 through to Sixth Form and beyond. We make principled decisions regarding examination entry, choosing to support the learning needs of the individual. Rossett School consistently achieves good examination results at both GCSE and in our Sixth Form. We are justly proud of our 'destinations data' that places Rossett School well above the North Yorkshire and national averages. In practice this means that all our Key Stage 4 students sustain their education, employment and training when they move to the next stage of their education. In the Winter of 2014, Pole Place opened its first studio just South of London in West Sussex. A second studio followed shortly after north of the border in the heart of Glasgow’s city centre. Founded by Ruby Rose Jackson in her hometown of Horsham, Pole Place’s original home was on the second floor of a popular bar on Piries Place - B52’s. Ruby had long dreamt of opening her own Pole studio having become hooked years earlier. Qualifying as an instructor, and with an ever-growing Pole skillset combined with a natural passion for teaching and inspiring those around her the initial idea of Pole Place was firmly at the visionary stage. Like any new business, funding was required to move it from the ideas stage to cutting the ribbon. With the studio as the inspiration Ruby began to fly as cabin crew with British Airways. Without revealing the un-glamorous side to air travel, on many random nights in many random places, hotel rooms all around the world became Ruby’s office - any spare minute she could find would go into business planning, designing, developing and creating her dream - Pole Place. Her dedication eventually paid off and she was able to leave her full-time post flying to finally open Pole Place’s studio doors. Pole Place initially began with a handful of clients. Steadily growing within the first couple of years, the Horsham studio later moved into our larger, current home on Church Street in Warnham. In 2016, a change in Ruby’s personal life presented her with a family move to Scotland. This gave way for an ideal opportunity to open a Pole Place sister venue on West Nile Street in Glasgow’s city centre which provides our Scottish “hame”! At Pole Place, we are extremely proud to have created a safe space for anyone to come and step out of their comfort zone and into an exciting new world. Where hair is flicked, confidence is boosted and dreams are made. Growing over the years, we have had the pleasure of teaching thousands of clients across both our studios. With nine instructors within our team, we are honoured to provide support and inspiration to all of our clients. From teaching the basics to mastering tricks, giving new skills, confidence and empowering one another. You can be anyone you want to be in the studio with zero judgement and only encouragement from all of the Pole Place Family.

The Science of Acting The Science of Acting was founded by Sam Kogan, influenced by Maria Knebel; his teacher, who herself was a student of Stanislavski. The curriculum of the Science of Acting is founded on 4 principles: Freedom from Gods or Idols - Only once you learn to think for yourself will you be able to be free on stage. Right and Wrong - Statements such as ‘there is no right or wrong in acting’, or ‘you either have it or you don’t’ are common in Drama Education. But if this were true, there would be no point to a drama school, or to dramatic training of any kind. The Science of Acting therefore is based on a technique the knowledge of which has proven to give actors the training to be able to create inspiring acting. Quality of Acting - We believe that the best acting occurs when actors are able to use the right type of imagination (which we all have); that being active as opposed to passive imagination, which few actors are aware of or know how to use. Terminology or The Meaning of Words - For a group of actors to create the context of stories and therefore entertain, a common understanding through language in all its forms is necessary. This enables each individual actor to be free in their uniqueness, whilst creating a totality for the audience. The Science of Acting will enable you to become an independent actor who is able to play any character in any medium, always delivering the highest level of professional work. Shine is the only UK charity that support adults in their 20s, 30s and 40s who have experienced a cancer diagnosis. There is never a good time to have cancer, but we know that younger adults face different issues than their older or younger counterparts. Many of these are not dealt with by traditional cancer support charities and services. Our vision, mission and strategy In January 2022, we finalised a new five-year strategy. We have updated our vision and mission statements and articulated our values. We will use these to underpin five strategic objectives that will guide Shine’s focus and attention between 2022 and 2027. Vision We want every adult in their 20s, 30s and 40s who is diagnosed with cancer to know they’re not alone, and to have the support, knowledge, and confidence to navigate whatever cancer throws their way. Mission There’s never a good time for a cancer diagnosis, but in your 20s, 30s or 40s there are particular challenges to navigate, like work, dating, finances and more. At Shine, we’ve been there and we get it. We’re here to help you deal with everything that your diagnosis brings, before, during and after treatment, and to welcome you into our community. Our values Inclusive – Our services are open to anyone in their 20s, 30s and 40s with a cancer diagnosis, no matter what type or stage, when your diagnosis was, or what your background is. Approachable – We want everyone in Shine’s community to feel welcomed and to feel able to get involved, and we design all our services to be friendly, fun and down-to-earth. Authentic – We’re patient-led and passionate, and we want everyone involved to have a genuine and honest voice, with patients at the heart of our work. Innovative – As a small charity, we’re adaptable and agile, and we are responsive to needs as they change. We listen to what Shine’s community is saying and strive to find practical solutions. Empowering – Our services aren’t about us “doing” to or “for” you. We want to empower you to ask the right questions, get the right information, take control, and make the best decisions for yourself. Our strategic objectives Connect – build a nationwide community of younger adults with cancer and the people around them, reducing isolation and supporting their physical and mental well-being. Inform – ensure that younger adults with cancer have access to the knowledge and support they need to make the best decisions for them. Influence – grow our influencing position and partnerships to shape a healthcare system and wider support that is suitable for the needs of young adults with cancer. Reach – increase the profile and reach of Shine, aiming for every young adult diagnosed with cancer to have access to our services and support. Build – invest in Shine’s internal capacity, governance and sustainability to build firm foundations for growth. Our goal is for these strands to come together to enable better wellbeing for younger adults with cancer, improved relationships and less isolation, more informed decision-making, and systems that are better able to meet our community’s needs. Our history Shine started in Dorset in 2008 as a non-traditional support group for young adults. Emma and Justine were both diagnosed with cancer at a young age and had a hard time finding others that the could relate to. They realised there was a huge lack of support for younger adults with cancer and the idea for Shine was born. Within the first year, they had connected with over 100 young adults in Dorset. In 2010, Emma met Ceinwen. They launched Shine in London and the UK’s first research into the unmet needs of young adults diagnosed with cancer. Ceinwen and Emma then developed events and activities that would support the gaps identified in the research. Shine was registered as a charity in 2012, and has since supported thousands across the UK Shine has local Shine Networks across the UK and runs a number of annual events including Shine Camp, the Great Escape retreat, and Shine Connect, the UK’s only conference for young adults with cancer. Shine also runs a number of highly-rated workshops on topics such as working after cancer and managing anxiety and depression. As a patient-led organisation, Shine works hard to ensure that young adults with cancer play a key role in the design and delivery of all activities. Shine is supported by a Board of Trustees as well as a patron, Oliver Spencer, and a number of corporate supporters including TTA and Travel Insurance Facilities.
