We provide a safe place for young people in the district to come for
recreational activities, computer access, fitness, education, counselling and
advice from trained professionals. We also provide an affordable venue for local
groups and residents from the district to hire for fitness and social
activities.
In June 2013, Wokingham Borough Council announced that all but two of their
youth centres and clubs would have to close due to budget cuts. On July 2nd 2013
concerned residents and users of the centre came together to form the Twyford
Youth Centre Steering Group which nominated seven trustees who, with the support
of Wokingham Borough Council, established a new charitable incorporated
organisation (CIO) called Twyford District Youth and Community Centre. This was
formed in January 2014. Registered charity number: 1155243.
The charity has an 'association model' constitution which means that anyone
interesting in furthering the charity's purposes can apply to become a member,
giving them voting rights at general meetings and at the AGM - to be held
annually in November.
