Kulan Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting ethnic minority residents in Shepherds Bush, London brough of Hammersmith and Fulham.What We Do Building Stronger Communities Together We run a variety of community-led projects that help address the needs of minority ethnic communities and create life-changing opportunities for them. Interactive Education High-Quality, Community-Led Education for Better Outcomes We take a collaborative and partnership-based approach to learning, drawing on our broad base of educational and community relationships that support our aims. We provide educational support in Maths, English and Science to the youth in their foundation years that help them to excel in their academia. Life Skills coding Employability Workshops Working Together, Achieving Together We focussed on changing the lives of adults and young people across our communities.Kulan Foundation runs holistic skills workshops for minority ethnic communities including CV writing, interview skills, presentation skills, improving self-confidence and motivation sessions. This will increase their skills, which will improve their chances of securing employment and volunteer opportunities. We also help with writing personal statements and UCAS applications for year 13 and provide the necessary work experience for community youth to have on their CV, thus improving employment opportunities.

CoCo has a team of staff and volunteers dedicated to building confidence, self-esteem and support positive lifestyle changes in young people via the conduits of education, sport and culture. Our staff have a background in mentoring and life coaching, project management, social inclusion, vocational training, and sports coaching. Our community based values are manifested in our training activities in the classroom, and our team activities which take place in positive open spaces and parks around Brighton and Hove. CoCo works with a variety of local organisations and stakeholders to achieve its goals and deliver its activities. For example, we work directly with youth clubs, Job Centre Plus, and youth/employment networks (Brighton’s Women’s Centre, the Chamber of Commerce, Brighton and Hove Youth Collective, and The Platform) to engage directly with young people that are interested in career planning, job search, our vocational courses, or sport team building activities. We also have close ties with sports clubs such as Hassocks Tennis Club, Preston Park Tennis Club, Pavilion and Avenue Tennis Club, Preston Panthers FC, Withdean FC and Patcham FC. With these clubs we organise team building events, joint sports days and in house training to develop soft and employability skills via sport. Our team has worked with hundreds of young people across Sussex to provide vocational training, mentoring and employability training. Our reach is growing and in 2017 hope to reach even more young people. Specifically, our qualified staff provide VET courses such as City and Guilds Level 1 Principles of Coaching Sport, Level 1-2 Employability Skills and Level 2 Travel and Tourism Destinations. We also provide Coaching and Mentoring Sessions with a qualified life coach, cultural activities and overseas team sports tours in Europe. Our aim is to support young people not in employment, education or training, aged 18-24, early school leavers now long term unemployed, general unemployed young people, and we place special emphasis on the participation of young women and the more socially excluded members of society. We use our links with local colleges, the local authority, community groups and youth networks to support young people into vocational training, improve their confidence and support them into further vocational training, work experience or employment. The Citizen Journalism Educational Trust (CJET) inspires and encourages the personal development of young people through journalism, writing, literacy and improving their communication skills. It was launched in March 2009 and is a charity registered with the UK Charity Commission. Its number is 1137691. Community-based journalism is used by the trust as a powerful vehicle for furthering the personal and social development of young people in hard to reach, non-traditional communities by giving them the ability to think critically about the world and express their ideas in a clear and collaborative way. Practicing journalism requires them to engage in the civic life of their communities.

We hold regular meetings with a range of speakers; giving members the opportunity to exchange views, network and obtain information on topical issues. We send regular correspondence to ensure that members are kept up to date with events, local or national government policy & regulatory changes that impact on the Independent Sector. Membership of GCPA is considered a sign of a progressive organisation, committed to delivering the highest standards of care and keen to play an active part in the county’s wider social care community. Representatives of the Gloucestershire Care Providers Association attend regular strategic and liaison meetings with Social Care Officers, to discuss and review contracts, procedures and other issues. We also work very closely with the NHS, including the Clinical Commissioning Group and Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust throughout the county, working together on a variety of initiatives aimed both at tackling immediate issues facing vulnerable people and designing better ways of working for the future. In addition we have strong links with CQC (Care Quality Commission) and regularly liaise with Senior County Councillors, local MPs, local authority Commissioners and other decision makers, influencers and interested organisations. The Young Reporter Scheme has been running since 2008 in partnership with Newsquest Media Group. It is a quality programme, delivering lectures and teachings to help mould young people, not only into the world of the media, but also into worthwhile careers for the future. Starting with two pilot schools and a handful of students in South West London, it grew exponentially and since then we have taken thousands of students through the process. Initially, students from the two pilot schools, wrote for The Local Guardian online newspaper but as the scheme grew, we extended the range of titles and now they write for Newsquest’s range of online newspapers throughout the entire of the UK. The scheme is open to Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 and students start their ‘writing career’ uploading articles directly onto the Newsquest websites, within specified deadlines and categories.   What is involved?  • Students sign up for eight months writing one article per month  • ALL articles are published on our online newspapers  • The scheme runs from September through to April of each academic year  • All those completing the scheme receive a written recommendation  • At the end of the scheme, there is a chance to go forward and compete for prizes  • Winners receive an undergraduate day at a London University  • Top thirty-three students attend a Media Award Ceremony  • One student from each age group becomes the face of Young Reporter for the next year   • Students doing Duke of Edinburgh can do the scheme as one of their skills   Costs  There is a minimal administration charge from the school and an additional cost for each student All monies received purely cover the running costs of the scheme, supporting students and mentoring sessions, as we are totally self-funding.
