Thanks for stopping by The Chunky Needle. I’m Courtney and I'm the chunky-junkie holding those colossal knitting needles! I first started knitting in the late 1980s and took up chunky knitting 20 years ago. I started knitting very long chunky scarves and have grown to love knitting super chunky blankets and homeware using the best merino wool available. The Chunky Needle has been trading since 2018. Chunky knitting appeals to me as the finished product is so unusual and dramatic. Friends and family always ask, "where did you get that?! I want one too!" The process takes less time than conventional knitting, so results can be seen quickly, and who doesn't want that?! Working with unspun merino wool is a dream as it's so incredibly soft and tactile and the colour range is vast. The whole process is actually quite hypnotic and incredibly relaxing. I started The Chunky Needle as I loved the look, colour, texture and aesthetic that chunky knits can bring to a room. I was inspired to pick up my needles and develop a homeware brand that is both luxurious and affordable. Each piece is made by me alone with love, attention and care. I hope you'll adore your Chunky Needle knit as much as I loved making it.

I have one wish – to pioneer beautiful and elegant floristry using stunning blooms to create simple enchanting designs. Based in Walton-on-Thames, working from my ‘small but perfectly formed’ workshop overlooking the River Thames, I use inspiration from the nature that surrounds me within all my creations. After pursuing a short but invaluable career in destination marketing, I couldn’t resist the call to follow my dreams and pursue my passions and become a florist. The seed was planted at an early age by my beloved Gran, who’s love of flowers and flower arranging (albeit for the Women’s Institute!) rubbed off on me along with her tireless unbounded creativity. Starting as a delivery driver for Royal florist Moyses Stevens, quickly stepping up the ladder to manage one of their shops, this experience resulted in an amazing six year career at leading fashionable florist, McQueens, as Events Manager. This wonderful opportunity allowed me to venture into the celebrity world on many occasions as well as working with hundreds of couples to provide flowers for their special day. Working together with some of the most talented florists and floral artists in the country, I have built up my creative portfolio to suit any occasion and need. I truly love my job, and I would love you to be part of it!

I have had a love of plants and flowers from an early age, and I used to earn my pocket money as a child weeding my gran's garden. She was a very knowledgeable ‘plants woman’ and I absorbed so much from spending time with her. My mum also loved flowers, and it was her ambition to fill every room of her house with them all year round; she never quite managed it! Building on their passion, I decided to take up the gauntlet, and started to grow seasonal flowers from seed. I became addicted, and was soon making bouquets for friends and selling flowers and plants at my garden gate. It was here that I met my first bride-to-be who was buying one of my posies. We started chatting and she casually asked me if I would do her wedding flowers. She liked the fresh, scented, pretty flowers that were not available on the high street. My cottage garden flowers lent themselves so beautifully to a natural, free-flowing design… I immediately said yes, and have never looked back.

After working in education, Children's Centres and becoming a mum of two active boys I was keen to develop an environment where families can come together to play in nature. Wild Things initially ran in parks throughout York, until I discovered the unused wooded area in the grounds of a York High School, Millthorpe. After running sessions for a few years it became apparent that the adults were keen to attend events as well. During the pandemic I started creating activity packs for children and then for adults.

I'm Angela and I have always loved flowers and plants, not to mention hosting and styling parties. I recently decided it was time to get back to work following the births of our two lovely daughters, Elena and Mila. Coming from an advertising background, I have always been surrounded by a pantone book and the creative folk that go with it, which I love. As much as I love marketing and advertising, I simply love designing flowers more. I signed up to do a floristry course and soon realised....this was it! Now as glamourous as it may sound washing out buckets has become my favourite pass time. There are a lot of 5am trips to the flower market and a fair bit of manual labour with each stem scrutinised and prepared to ensure it lasts as long as possible...and I love it all. I wouldn't change it for anything. I love bringing a wedding to life and brightening up someone's day with a little bouquet of love and sunshine! I feel privileged to be living my dream.

She perfected all of the recipes herself, building a brand through the 90s which became synonymous with ‘the best’ amongst retailers and consumers alike. Her next venture was the acclaimed Belle House restaurant in Pershore where modern dishes and relaxed surroundings have proven to be a winning combination. In 2004, Judy bought Manor Farm in Eckington, with the aim of sharing her vision of modern entertaining with everyone. Her ambition was to create a cookery school that allowed guests to learn all sorts of skills by offering outstanding facilities set in a beautiful location but without losing a sense of fun.
