Introduction to the Garden Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden was created by a wealthy Warrington banker, Thomas Parr, around 1830 when he built a new house and estate for his family. The land nearest the house was designated as parkland to give a suitable setting to the mansion and the outer areas were farm land. The landscape that existed at that time was incorporated into the estate and many of the woodlands, ponds and avenues that formed the parkland then still remain in place today. As a whole these features form a significant record of a landscape designed in the manner of a gentry country estate. It appears, from historical records, that the estate was at its height from 1875 – 1899 and this is considered to be the most significant period for the design and productivity of the garden. The house was demolished in 1975 but the 4 acre walled garden was retained as a local amenity. English Partnerships refurbished much of the garden as part of their development of the area and new housing, working closely with the Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden Conservation Project charity, the Warrington Organic and Wildlife Gardening Society and the Woodland Trust. Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council took ownership of the garden in 2005 and, with the help of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Friends of Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden, has developed the facility into a peaceful, well maintained and beautiful garden which is now a popular local visitor attraction and resource for horticulture, education and enjoyment.

Based in the Borders town of Peebles, surrounded by beautiful countryside, Rosetta Early Learners provides quality early learning and childcare for children from 2.5 years of age until starting primary school. Rosetta is a small, friendly setting where learning through play and working in partnership with families and the wider community are central to its ethos. The dedicated team of experienced staff and volunteers ensure a high adult to child ratio and we welcome parents and families to get involved and be part of the Rosetta experience. In addition to our nursery playroom and garden area we have access to the grounds of the adjoining primary school and nearby areas of green space and woodland. We work in partnership with Scottish Borders Council (SBC) to provide funded Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) sessions for children from the term after their third birthday. We also provide parent funded sessions for children from 2.5 years of age. We are open term time and the term dates follow those of the local schools with occasional minor changes to allow for staff training.

She is a teacher who quickly discovered the magic of taking learning into the playground and beyond. With almost twenty years of working in education, she has experience teaching in primary, severe and complex schools and ASD bases. Throughout the years’ Carol has and is working on wide range of training. This includes a Master in Learning for Sustainability (with an outdoor learning focus), Lead Teacher in Outdoor Learning, Woodland Activity Leader Training and also Forest School training (level 8 FOLA). She is also set to complete her Coastal Activity Leader Training in July 2022. She Carol loves to support schools by providing training, advice and resources helping teachers break out of the classroom and deliver learning outdoors. Carol is one of the countries leading educational consultants supporting schools in Scotland, the UK and across the globe. She delivers training, presents keynote speeches and is passionate about helping schools develop high quality outdoor learning.

With two 18 hole courses, a 9 hole Par 3 course and together with first class practice facilities it has become home to many golf professionals competing on the European tours. We have staged 9 SKY televised Europro events, 12 Stage 1 Europro Q School, 7 West Region PGA championships and 3 English Over 48s championship as well as regional finals for many top amateur and professional events. In 2022 we hosted stage 1 of the DP World Tour Q-School for the third time. The club opened in 2002 and was quickly ranked 113 in the Golf World 2006 ‘Best Courses in Great Britain and Ireland’. All the courses have been built to the finest specifications with USGA greens, fairway irrigation and a rich landscape with woodland, lakes and gorse all coming into play. The courses are designed by Adrian Stiff who also designed highly rated neighbours, Cumberwell Park and The Kendleshire. It’s flagship Codrington course, is designed to test you, thrill you and frustrate in equal measure, with the Stranahan course requiring positional play and is ideal for higher handicappers, ladies and seniors. If you like to practice in addition to a 9 hole par 3 course we have a 300 yard range with 40,000 squared metres of teeing grassed teeing area. Short game area, 4 practice putting greens and a ‘Repeater’ facility to test your repeat performance with the wedge.
