Wildcraft Adventure is a 3 hour outdoor gaming session offering children a space to come together, to play and to reconnect with nature. On Monday morning we will meet outside the school gates at 9 a.m. sharp and then move into the woodland games zone. Children must bring their own water bottles, however we will provide drinks and snacks will be available throughout the morning. Please be advised that we are a nut free zone. The cost of the session is £25 per child. Places for this course are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment. I am a pole lathe turner, (turning both “spindle”and bowl products), based in Newbury, West Berkshire. I have been working for over ten years at my craft and enjoying every bit of it. I am very passionate about my craft and love imparting my enthusiasm for it to anyone who wishes to listen and or learn. My working life started as a woodland worker on the Stratfield Saye Estate in the late 1980's and as such instilled a love of the woodlands and all their associated crafts. I am a member of the Association of Pole-lathe turners and I look forward to meeting more like minded individuals, whilst sharing ideas and experiences. Why not come and join us! I will be adding to my green woodworking skills base over the winter months and will constantly add new products and services as I feel that they meet my high standards, and yours.

The New Futures Academy is a community based education initiative. Our work focuses on learning from nature through practical skills, creativity and personal development. We aim to provide young people and diverse communities with the practical skills, inspiration and knowledge to create climate and ecological solutions, whilst nurturing and enhancing their own sense of wellbeing...and of course, having fun and enjoying being outdoors! Location Most of our activities are based at Little Barton: a beautiful 24 acre site in Littlehempston, South Devon, overlooking the River Dart. Little Barton is an exciting new permaculture project, which we will be helping the landowners to develop as part of our learning activities, such as: establishing a large forest garden and nut orchard, perennial and annual vegetable beds, cut flower beds, a wildflower meadow, a wild woodland and much more... We also occasionally offer training and events at other inspiring locations, and can deliver bespoke courses and workshops at a location of you choice by arrangement.

Our forest visitors very quickly start to tingle with an adventuring spirit, upon making their way down the winding path, into the clearing which is our meeting hub. It includes a round-house and sturdy shelter to house an open fire to protect us from the elements, a kitchen and weather protected areas for tool use. Within our woods are dedicated areas for quiet sitting spots, woodland walks, den making, cooking, tool use, den building, forest therapy and even a composting-loo hut . Should anyone not have appropriate clothing we can help using clothes supplied by our partners TOG24. Our team is made up of amazing people qualified in a wide range of skills and with an incredible wealth of experience. With three in-house staff and a large bank of tried & tested contractors available to us we can cater for every desire. With qualified forest school practitioners, mental health support staff, teachers and youth & community workers we always work at a high level with all groups.

Hello and welcome – thanks for dropping in. My name is Adrian Lloyd although those that know me well find that Ade is what I answer to best. I am a full-time designer, maker and teacher and am passionate about traditional handcrafts. I live and work in North West Cumbria in a tiny farming hamlet nestled mid-way between the northernmost edge of the Lake District National Park and the Solway Coast. Most of my making and teaching takes place in an original threshing barn, one of several historic outbuildings, which, along with our 300-year-old farmhouse, surround a cobbled courtyard. I specialise in creating beautiful, functional, traditional hand-crafted items from green wood (that is wood that looks like a freshly felled tree and still contains all of its moisture) using traditional methods and razor-sharp hand tools like axes and knives. My craft is for everyday use in the kitchen and around the home, it is designed to be used hard and for a long time, hopefully by generations of the same family. I developed my passion for handcraft from a very young age and thrive when being able to ignite a new passion for creativity in others. After a design-based university education, I then spent nearly the next twenty years teaching children and adults in both formal and informal education settings, indoors and out. However, I then took the decision to pursue craft on a full-time basis and now earn my living from all things Slöjd! I have been carving on and off for the best part of probably thirty years and have added turning, furniture making, basket weaving and anything else green wood along the way. I also do some blacksmithing, bladesmithing and tool making and make all of my own bowl turning tools. I can normally be found somewhere along or between the length and breadth of this great island teaching some aspect of this wonderful craft we call greenwood, or holed up bothering some wood in my farmhouse workshop in Cumbria. I try to use only locally sourced British hardwoods in my craft that are harvested from either wind-blown trees or from sustainably managed woodland as part of a natural thinning and woodland regeneration process. I have favourite woods for specific purposes but will generally use any wood that is suitable for the function and form of the piece being worked on. I have a real interest in the way our relationships with the natural environment develop and have studied for qualifications in bushcraft leadership, practical ethnobotany and plant identification, wildlife identification and tracking and woodland management, including the identification and management of veteran trees. I draw on this knowledge and experience to ensure my teaching provides rich, holistic and rewarding learning opportunities. If you are looking for a piece of traditional craft work that will last for many years to come and want something that you can enjoy using every day then you have come to the right place. I update products on a regular basis – although sell out quickly, so if you sign up for my mailing list you’ll often get early notification of updates and are less likely to miss out!
