Old Hanging Wood is situated between Little Chalfont and Chorleywood in rural Buckinghamshire countryside close to the historic Chenies Manor visited by both Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. The woodland is over 16 acres and is designated by Natural England as Ancient Replanted Woodland. This is an indication of woodland origins dating to before 1600 AD. Old Hanging Wood is a family owned company, with the sole purpose of providing a facility and activities for the local community. The Feasey Family live close by to the Woodland and have always enjoyed walks through green spaces, learning about the vast range of trees and wildlife. Therefore, we wanted to give back to the community and run a not-for-profit organisation utilising our woodland to provide others with the opportunity to explore and learn the natures of a Woodland.

A fine art woodcarver based in northern England and Wales. Carving nature inspired art spoons and jewellery by axe and knife with naturally fallen wood.”With a background in photography and graphic design but a lifelong love of woodlands and wilderness, I started teaching myself woodcarving in early 2015 as a way to spend more time in the small woodland that I manage in the mountains of North Wales. Using only the tools that I already had for looking after the woodland, my axe and a knife, I began carving wooden spoons from wind fallen trees and branches that I would find and forage for on the woodland floor. After twelve months I abandoned my life as a designer and photographer to pursue my wood carving full time.

High quality land-based training courses, Morton Training Limited are a Lantra registered Training Provider and City & Guilds/NPTC Assessment Centre. This means that we are able to meet all your land-based training and assessment requirements. All our instructors are highly qualified and registered with Lantra and our Assessors used are all NPTC qualified. When selecting woods for training people to fell trees we partner up with local landowners who have areas of woodland that have often been neglected and may not be commercially viable for big contracts and machines. Tree are marked up to take out the weakest or worst formed trees thus enhancing the chances of the remaining trees. The brash is normally left in the wood as habitat piles. Often small glades are created giving further opportunity for diversity with woodland species like foxglove, bluebells and wild garlic. The timber is then extracted either for logs or biomass. Occasionally some will be left in the wood as habitat. Because all of our felling is done by hand rather than machine the impact on the wood is minimal and always leaves the woodland in a better condition than before. We have also donated to National Trust to plant 500 Square Metres of Woodland on our behalf. If you wish to donate, please click here to access the National Trust site.
