At Learning Hotspots we deliver affordable, pay as you go, small group and Hotspot sessions for children of all abilities. All of our sessions are led by fully qualified, experienced, local teachers who are able to tailor each learning experience in order to meet the needs of your child. Whether they require a confidence boost, are struggling with a particular subject or wish to further extend their existing knowledge; we can deliver high quality sessions that really make a difference, in a way that creates smiles, laughter and joy. At Learning Hotspots, your child’s happiness and wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do and we believe that achievement can be measured in more ways than one. We value the whole child, and aim to develop children’s emotional, social, creative, and cognitive abilities through our range of exciting one hour Hotspot sessions. Each session is linked to a particular subject area, is fully aligned to the national curriculum and is wrapped around with nurturing, mood enhancing activities. One of our experienced teachers will lead the group learning, accompanied by a skilled assistant. With our carefully planned and well-resourced sessions, children will receive personalised, focused care in a space where they feel safe and valued. We provide a collaborative environment where children of all ages can enjoy working together Learning together and from each other can be an effective way of developing confidence and competencies It provides the opportunity to interact with peers, share ideas and learn in an engaging environment It offers a variety of learning opportunities such as group, paired and individual work It develops independence by being able to offer close, individual attention from the teacher combined with short periods of time where children are able complete work independently

I have been involved in supporting people who are in emotional and other life difficulties most of my working life, initially in volunteering, then in social work. My path from becoming a counsellor, to psychosexual therapist, trainer, clinical supervisor, university lecturer and author started in 1983. From 1993 to 2010 I worked for Sheffield Hallam University teaching counselling and later heading the Counselling Studies Unit. In 2006 I set up a counselling centre in Sheffield (Cornerstone) with a colleague, which continues to thrive. In 2010 when SHU ceased professional training for prospective counsellors I sought permission to set those courses up as part of a private training initiative. SHU was very supportive, and so The Academy: SPACE came into being. The motivations for all my work have been a wish to relieve suffering and to experience the joy of seeing others grow and develop (and, of course, to heal some of my own wounds on the way).

Landmarks started to offer day services and post-16 education in March 1995, where the curriculum was largely practical and land-based, working in farm buildings in Creswell, Derbyshire. Since that time Landmarks has grown and developed its educational offer so that by the time of writing this welcome, Landmarks supports over 150 post-16 and day service Learners, all of whom learn a variety of essential life skills from our five sites located across the East Midlands and South Yorkshire. We have changed our curriculum from purely land and animal-based to include several vocational subjects such as; hospitality, catering, cookery, retail, administration and labouring. These additional subjects support our learners to make informed choices about the type of vocations they would like to follow. College life at Landmarks involves being taught in practical, real-life situations, whilst being supported by highly trained and experienced staff who are experts in working with learners with additional needs. It is important for me, as it is for my team, that whilst learners are with us, they focus on developing knowledge, skills and behaviour that makes a real difference to their lives. I hope from reading the case studies and outcomes featured within this website, you can see what difference that focus has made to our learners’ lives. I am extremely proud of all our learners’ achievements, either becoming more independent so that they can attend activities they enjoy or securing employment for the first time in their lives. Indeed, we are so keen to support our learners that when you leave Landmarks, should you need support to maintain employment or seek advice you can contact our dedicated ‘After College, Aftercare’ team. I do trust that you will enjoy exploring our website and getting to know us a little better. Of course, it is only by visiting Landmarks that you will truly get a feel for the place. Mental Health First Aid is a practical training programme (2 days at most) which equips anyone who is willing to learn with the knowledge and best practice skills they can apply when supporting a friend, colleague or loved one with stress or other mental health issues. It is not a substitute for qualified professional help. But it does enable ordinary people to be present and proactive in signposting those who need it to medical or psychological services.
