foxhole community garden
Dartington Estate
Foxhole Community Garden CIC was founded in May 2015 by three childhood friends
Zoe Jong, Kate Baker and Penny Hendy. The aim was to bring back into use Foxhole
Community Garden as a resource for the local community and a place to offer
therapeutic gardening sessions and gardening sessions for families. Our mission
is to create and sustain an accessible, welcoming garden of use to people of all
ages and sectors of the community. We use organic no-dig gardening methods and
are working to create insect and wildlife habitats to encourage biodiversity in
the garden. Zoe Jong is the garden co-ordinator and on-the-ground presence at
the garden. A grower, gardener and forest school leader she runs most of the
sessions at the garden and is the person to contact about the day-to-day running
of the garden. C0- director Penny Hendy is a primary school teacher while
director Kate Baker works as a children’s book editor. Alongside steering the
overall vision and direction of the garden they provide administrative,
governance and moral support which are invaluable in getting the project off the
ground.
