Lion Learners is the brainchild of husband and wife, David & Liona Woricker. A teacher and conservationist respectively, who wanted to combine their passion for education and wildlife. Because what better way to learn about animals than to actually meet them? In 2009, David and Liona started bringing their fun and unique animal handling experiences to schools, nurseries, clubs and parties. It was an instant success. Children loved meeting the animals, teachers loved the educational enrichment, and parents loved the interaction.

From that point I began retraining from being a People Trainer to a Dog (People) Trainer through the Victoria Stilwell Academy for Dog Trainers. I was taught by some of the leading dog professional in the world (Victoria Stilwell, Brad Waggoner, Lisa Waggoner, Sarah Fisher and so many more). Following 6 months of study, intensives, cyber-classes, online lessons and the mentorship aspect, I graduated with Distinction. Not only was this one of the most amazing experiences of my life, I now have a completely different view on our canine friends and what they are capable of.

At the heart of education and innovation The Cardiac Diagnostics Education Centre is based within the North West Heart Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital which forms part of the wider Manchester Heart Institute of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. As an IQIPS Cardiac Physiology and BSE accredited department we have many years of experience in running advanced cardiology courses, launching our new portfolio of courses under the ‘Cardiac Diagnostics Education Centre’ name in 2021.   With over 65 staff members at all levels we provide diverse training to support the needs of school leavers, undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as qualified healthcare professionals. Our learners include students, AHPs, nurses, physiologists, registrars, GPs and consultants. Our aim is to deliver the highest quality cardiac education to healthcare professionals to encourage continuous improvement and progression in cardiac knowledge in order to provide the best, most advanced patient care. We are proud to provide the BSc and MSc clinical cardiology teaching for both the Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) and Scientist Training Programme (STP) run by the National School of Healthcare Science on behalf of Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). In collaboration with the British Society for Echocardiography (BSE), Health Education England and MMU we also facilitate the 18 month echocardiography training programme (ETP) which includes a Postgraduate certification in Echocardiography and a BSE Level 2 accreditation in transthoracic echocardiography. We are also a selected National Practice Assessment Centre for the BSE. In line with our commitment to education we also host numerous apprentice, PTP, STP and echocardiography students each year throughout their learning and ensure they are incorporated into our wider team to enhance their experience. We also offer work experience for candidates of all ages (school leavers through to career changes) to provide unrivalled access to the crucial work we perform - this helps to raise the profile and showcase the importance of cardiac physiology as a discipline. As an extension to our in-house education we also run external courses for other a wide range of other healthcare providers. Steph hated school and couldn’t wait to leave. After a number of jobs that she didn’t enjoy, she returned to further then higher education and (ironically) became a teacher. Steph taught in secondary and further education as a business and economics teacher amongst other subjects. She was then offered a role within Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council Education Directorate managing the EOTAS (Education other than at school) service. A diversion from teaching to managing teachers and other support staff for 11 years, Steph decided to take the plunge and set up her own education company. Almost 5 years on, she runs a successful business employing over 100 staff. Having previously been a supply teacher, she understands the role and empathises with how overwhelming it can be for staff going into different schools sometimes on a daily basis. She is a totally hand’s on, fully supportive manager who will go out of her way to ensure all staff and schools are looked after. Jacob Blackmore OPERATIONS MANAGER Jacob originally joined the company in 2016, working as a part-time Teaching Assistant alongside his studies. In 2018, he graduated from University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Carmarthen, achieving BA (Hons) in Primary Education and gaining Qualified Teacher Status. Jacob continued to work for B.E.S.T in his new role as a Primary School Teacher. B.E.S.T allowed Jacob to complete his NQT induction and gain valuable experiences in a number of schools across Neath Port Talbot. Keen to apply his passion and knowledge of education, further develop his skill set and continue to contribute to the growth of the company, Jacob joined the office-based team at B.E.S.T as Operations Manager in January 2020. Jacob is also a keen sportsman, with a passion for rugby. He has played for many representative teams including Wales u16s, Ospreys u16s-18s and was captain of Neath Port Talbot College for the 2014/15 season. Jacob has also had previous WRU Championship and Premiership experience with Carmarthen Quins, Aberavon and is currently playing for Neath RFC.

Our collaboration delivers education sessions for those with an interest in palliative care. Wirral Palliative Care Education Hub is designed for people with an interest in palliative care, whether they are fully qualified or undertaking further learning to enhance a career in health and social care. Sessions are delivered by experienced medical, clinical and allied health professionals, who outline their own work and current best practise, across a range of physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological, treatments and therapies for people with life-limiting illnesses. Providing learning and development opportunities for our staff (and volunteers, where applicable) is an essential part of all of our organisations in delivering the highest quality care and support services for our patients, their families, and those important to them.
