Hello! My name is Elly and I've been learning Japanese since 2012, and teaching since 2018, officially founding Ippo Ippo Japanese in 2020. Find out more about me here. Through Ippo Ippo Japanese, I provide teaching for both individuals and groups, with a strong focus on providing a supportive and motivating environment for students. Learning Japanese is a long but exciting process, and I hope that I can help others enjoy it even a fraction as much as I still do! In Japanese, Ippo Ippo is written as 一歩一歩。 一 is the Japanese character for 'one'. 歩 is the character for 'step'. This makes 一歩一歩 literally 'one step one step'. In other words: 'step by step' or 'one step at a time'! The choice of name came about partly simply because of the nice, bouncy ring that 'Ippo Ippo' has to it. However, more important is the meaning. At Ippo Ippo, learning Japanese is less about sprinting to memorise every vocab item, grammar point or kanji, and more about the process of putting one step forward at a time, finding ways to have fun and explore through the language. While there are times when you may want to up the pace, in general, a more sustainable approach is encouraged, helping you to steadily build confidence and keep up motivation in the long run. 日本語の勉強、一歩一歩頑張りましょうね！ Nihongo no benkyō, ippo ippo ganbarimashō ne! In 2001 the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) established their own College, ABDO College, as a centre of excellence raising the standards in optical education for the whole profession. I was graduated from Yildiz Technical University, which is one of Turkey’s leading universities, Chemical Engineering Department in 2004. When I was studying at the university, I was tutoring lessons in chemistry, mathematics, physics and science. Later, I worked as a chemistry/science teacher in a private education tutoring school. I completed my master’s degree formation as a chemistry teacher which allowed me to work in all schools in Turkey as a Chemistry/Science Teacher. In addition, I started my master’s degree in chemical engineering. But, with the birth of my daughter, I quit my second master thesis. After working for 8 years as a chemistry/science teacher, I was promoted as the head of the chemistry and the department of science. Two years later, I was promoted to the Deputy Principal of the Secondary School. After working for 3 years as the Deputy Principal of the Secondary School, I worked for 2 years as the Principal of the Secondary and High School director. During my work, except for my business, I participated in many programmes to help and support young people. One of them is the Duke of Edinburgh International Youth Award. I worked as an award leader supervisor and coordinator. Another one is for gifted and talented students, I developed some activities in science and maths with my colleagues. During the period I worked, I realized the importance of personal development and participated in many training programs. After my training in mentoring and coaching, there was a huge change in my attitude on life. It is possible for each student to reach the maximum of his / her potential with proper directions. In this context, I am coaching and mentoring and try my best to guide the students and their parents to make the right choice for the right high school and the right university.

After 20 years working in the NHS within Science and Quality Management, with a Degree & Masters degree in Biomedical Science, Diploma in Management, Diploma in Executive Coaching and gaining Chartered Scientist and Chartered Quality Professional status, my lifestyle and working life changed when my little girl was due to start school in 2016.
