When we started Nimbus Learning, we looked to solve what we saw as a gap in support for students such as ourselves. Our peers would reach out for help but would be faced with a multitude of obstacles to access student success services. We watched as they put time and effort into finding help (whether that be finding tutors, mentors or other support) on top of an already intense workload, juggling school, jobs and family responsibilities. We watched their health, wellbeing and success suffer as a result. When we connected with administrators to try to understand the problem, we saw ambitious and dedicated offices spending a significant amount of time every day on repetitive, time consuming tasks. Tasks like emailing to match students with the right mentor, recruiting tutors, and tracking hours and time sheets. Over the years we have honed Nimbus Learning’s services to make student success services more accessible while cutting down on the administrative workload. The Nimbus Platform centralizes tutoring, mentorship and advising programs into one place, where service providers can make their availability known in a few steps and students can book what they need at the click of a button. London Examinations Board only promotes superior internationally recognized courses. We are primarily a distance learning provider, but recognize that not everyone is comfortable with distance learning. Therefore LEB has approved select colleges and institutions in certain jurisdictions to offer student support and, if preferred, face to face classroom learning in addition to LEB’s online delivery platform. These colleges and institutions become LEB Approved Learning Centres. Quality assurance visits and training on the London Examinations Board learning platform are carried out by us before formal centre approval is given. Annual reviews are also undertaken to ensure processes, procedures and quality assurance are maintained. LEB Approved Learning Centres will usually provide additional tutoring will provide administrative and other support to the learners. Learners will have full access to our online learning platform. These Universities therefore only require LEB graduates to top-up their LEB awards rather than undertake the Universities whole programme. Eithne Leming has worked as a Teacher, Head Teacher, Education Consultant, Trainer and Writer. She has worked within mainstream education, special schools, and professional associations and for the Department of Education in a career that spans over 30 years. She is a member of the European register of NROLE (those Nationally Recognised as Outstanding Leaders in Education). OFSTED describe her as “A very effective and inspirational Leader who provides clear vision and direction.” She has project managed Additional Language Services, established a Parent Partnership Service in Suffolk that provided school improvement and parent support services as well as setting up PRU and Behavioural Support services. She has worked internationally as well as nationally and regularly speaks at Education Conferences. In addition for the last 10 years Eithne has written for magazines and publications such as the Heads Legal Guide, The Secondary Heads Association, Home-School Practice issues. During her years as a Head Teacher at First Base (a Pupil Referral Unit and Behaviour Support Service for 111 schools in Suffolk) she attracted national recognition for her innovative work with the main client group of 3 – 8 year olds and also for cross age tutoring of Key Stage 3 and 4 students (13 – 16 year olds) at risk of exclusion and disaffection. In recent years Eithne has gained experience in the National Strategies working in interim Regional Adviser roles for Early Years and also for School Improvement, providing advice and guidance to Local Authorities in Northamptonshire and more recently in Hounslow. Eithne's consultancy work in recent years has involved: training for teachers and headteachers in developing effective school improvement, schools and working in these areas at a more strategic level with Local Authorities. It helps to have the last name "Pure" - it goes with so many nouns - and as a teacher, it made perfect sense to put "learning" after my name. Pure Learning started when my triplet children were four years old. As a reading specialist, who had experience in the classroom and in the private learning center arena, starting a small tutoring business seemed like the logical next step. I could set my own hours, focus on working 1:1 with students who had dyslexia and other learning issues, homeschool my own children, AND I could develop materials along the way - something I always enjoyed doing as a teacher. When I began working as a reading specialist at a Montessori school, I started implementing spelling lessons I had developed. Orton-Gillingham-based lessons with explicit skills instruction involving letters and sounds AND the use of three modalities - visual, auditory, and kinesthetic - were the most effective. Some of my students were strong in one area but weak in another. By presenting all three modalities in a lesson, each student could find their own strength and I could see how my student learned best. The teachers saw the difference the lessons I had created were making in their students' spelling and writing and craved a program that would teach them how to teach spelling AND make sense to the students. From that, Working with Words evolved. Fast forward 20+ years and, today, I can look back and know that this Orton-Gillingham-based, multisensory approach focused on phonics and the six syllable types has been successful with early, struggling, resistant, underconfident, AND strong readers and spellers.
