Our clubs harness these natural behaviours and open new doors for kids to see where their creative minds will take them next. It’s been proven that art and drama strengthen focus and increases attention but most importantly they build self-esteem and motivation. Our clubs and classes focus on creating environments of trust and relationships, where kids feel part of a team and value the importance of teamwork. I set up Albany Pet Services with the support of the Princes Trust Charity. After university I took some routes down the corporate route. I had visions that lunches in London and walking past the Heron tower and the Gherkin would carrying my Kate Spade handbag would fulfil me but it didn’t! In search of more meaning in my work, I joined a charity and learnt about the power of how dogs learn. It fascinated me how much trust a person could place in their dogs and how clever dogs were. From here, after my contract ended, I started Albany Pet Services. I’m fascinated by neuroscience and how it can help to build habits and reach goals. I look at a pets behaviour from a holistic approach. It’s important for me to understand a pet’s behaviour from their early life experiences and previous reinforcement that makes them behave this way. Sometimes the need the pet is desiring is not always food so it’s important for me to look at a behaviour from a motivation perspective. I believe training can help a pet be safe in our busy world, and when done correctly can be an excellent preventative strategy for behavioural challenges. Consent is key, for human and non human learners. My training service can help you to feel more confident with your dog and help you to stress less. I have spent hundreds of hours studying, reading, writing reports and training and I would love to share what I have learnt to overcome the particular challenge you’re experiencing. I volunteer for the Blue Cross providing talks for children in schools about canine choice, pet care and staying safe around dogs. This is really important to me as many dog bites can be preventable. When I am not working with people and their pets, I enjoy watching and participating in my local theatre and running group. I also love singing and dancing ( I’m yet to master them but I enjoy them nevertheless!). Flying a plane is the next goal!

Thank you for visiting the Valence School website. We are proud to share with you the excellent work we do with children and young people who have physical disabilities and complex medical needs. Our school is unique within the maintained sector in the whole of southern England. We cater for students aged 4 to 19 and have both day and boarding places. We have a large site with high quality teaching, social care and health care facilities. A staff team of over 200 people provides specialist teaching, social care, therapies and nursing care to an exceptionally high standard. Our overall aim is to enable every child and young person to achieve meaningful independence. Students flourish in a supportive but challenging environment, making good educational progress and achieving a range of accreditation as they get older. There is excellent support to enable students to achieve functional communication, mobility and skills for daily living. We are a Foundation Special School and are part of the Kent SEN Trust, a cooperative trust of ten schools working together to improve outcomes for all the children and young people attending the schools. In 2008 Valence became a specialist Sports College and this status plays a significant role in raising students’ achievements and their participation in high quality physical education and sport. The School works proactively with parents and external professionals to provide holistic support for every child and young person. It is also developing high quality outreach support services to local schools and more widely for children and young people in Kent who have physical disabilities who are attending mainstream schools. The School always places children and young people at the centre of all decisions it takes and it has a relentless focus on achieving the best possible outcomes for every student. We currently have 1033 students on roll from years 7 to 11 and Summer 2020 saw our first cohort of students successfully completing their time with us and going on to take up a wide range of local and national Post-16 courses and positions.
