It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our website and our school. William Edwards is a large, successful, harmonious and thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. Pupil outcomes across the school are historically strong. However, attending William Edwards is about so much more than just GCSE outcomes. We firmly believe that your school days should be the best days of your life and that schools have a moral purpose to extend the life experiences of their pupils. That is why we boast the largest Duke of Edinburgh cohort of any school in the East of England and are one of only a very small number of secondary schools nationally to hold both the Artsmark Platinum Award and the Youth Sports Trust Gold Award for our work in these diverse fields. We were delighted that our last inspection report noted that “pupils who spoke to inspectors were effusive about their experience in school” and that “the breadth of curriculum opportunities available at the school is a real ‘gem’ in the school’s offer to its pupils”. The school is a proud founding member of the South West Essex Community Education Trust which runs three secondary schools and three primary schools across Thurrock and the London Borough of Havering. We were delighted that our last Ofsted inspection captured our considerable strengths in teaching, pastoral care, behaviour, pupil support and curriculum. We are pleased that these ‘cornerstones’ of high quality education remain strong at the school.

The Bishop's Palace, Wells, SomersetThe site and buildings of The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens is owned by the Church Commissioners and operated by The Palace Trust, a registered charity which manages the site as a heritage visitor attraction. Our Purpose As stewards of this beautiful and historic place, our primary purpose is “to conserve The Bishop’s Palace and its story as a place of enjoyment and reflection for the benefit of all”. Our Vision To inspire and touch the lives of many by offering joy, healing, hope and wellbeing. Our Legacy The Palace Trust gets no statutory funding. The cost of maintaining the Palace is met entirely by grants from organisations like the National Lottery and Charitable Trusts, by Admission tickets, special events and our café. But this does not cover the entire cost of everyday maintenance, so donations to this aspect of our work are also always welcome. Likewise, the cost of conservation work cannot be met by admission fees etc. so we rely on voluntary donations to finance this aspect of our work. The annual costs vary between £400,000 and £500,000. So, this is an area where we welcome donations – large or small, regular or one-off – to enable us to carry out this vital work. They have a strong appreciation of natural beauty and abundance and love the people they work with. My name is Caroline Oleron and I am a florist and grower with a strong appreciation of natural beauty and seasonal abundance. I established Cherfold Flowers in 2010 and have developed a reputation for colour, texture and natural floral design. The flower studio is now based in my garden on the Surrey/West Sussex border. It’s here you’ll find me with an abundance of seasonal beauty, plus of course Monty the studio dog. I love the gentle atmosphere and the warm, inspiring space. Brides, homeowners and companies come to Cherfold Flowers because they trust me to create memorable floral designs. Artistry and quality are core to the work I do here at Cherfold Flowers. I’m a self-taught gardener who went to art schools in London and Paris. I lived on a kibbutz and developed a talent for photographing atmospheric still life. When my children were young, I fell in love with gardening. I have been cultivating my knowledge of botanicals and bulbs, shrubs and scent ever since. My approach is one that prioritises seasonal, British-grown produce and surprise. For instance, a groom’s buttonhole may contain a rosemary sprig or funghi from the local woodland floor; a bride may carry a bouquet that reflects her elements of grandmother’s cottage garden; and an office space will be transformed by luscious greenery and foliage.

She could spiral down, developing unhealthy coping mechanisms such as taking drugs, drinking excessive amounts of alcohol and mixing with the wrong crowd. As a result of her lowered resilience and lack of support, Sam may develop a mental illness such as depression. Sadly, 1 in 3 adult mental health conditions relate directly to adverse childhood experiences. or… She could benefit from one to one targeted intervention. She could realise that, in fact, she is a gifted artist and, with appropriate support and encouragement, can contribute to class activities. She could even learn to trust others and express her feelings in a safe environment, rebuilding her damaged self-esteem. It is because of children and young people like Sam that Bright Paths exist. Bright Paths are a dedicated children’s mental health service working with children, young people and their families to help nurture their social, emotional and mental health needs. We also work with children who present with challenging behaviour and specialise in supporting those with ADHD or ASD struggling in mainstream schools.
