The Calibre programme has been run at North East London Foundation Trust every year since 2015. It was the first NHS Foundation Trust to host Calibre and over 50 members of disabled staff have completed the programme. These include doctors, nurses, specialist clinicians and professional staff as well. Not only has Calibre been beneficial to those member of staff, it has also benefited their managers, senior management and also the way in which disability is now understood at NELFT. Calibre is now integral part of the training offer to disabled staff at North East London Foundation Trust. I am a disabled person from a black and minority ethnic background, and an E&D consultant with fifteen years of experience as a trainer and specialist adviser. I spent twelve years as an academic at the Universities of Oxford, York and Surrey and have written seminal works on the experience of BME disabled people and social care. As a trainer, I have run disability and E&D training courses for Public Sector organisations such as the NHS, the Department of Health and Social Care, numerous Local Authorities, Universities and voluntary sector organisations. Since 2013, I have also run the Calibre Leadership Programmes for disabled staff at a number of Universities and NHS Trusts. If NHS foundation trusts like NELFT want to meet the needs of their disabled staff and see the improvements in their experience through the WDES. My name is Chrissie Hines and I have invested a lot of time and money gaining valuable practical experience and recognised professional qualifications. I studied for 1 year on an intensive in-person course with the Victoria Stilwell Academy, to ensure that I gained my dog certification from a reputable, accredited, forward thinking and established team of worldwide dog experts and enthusiasts. Along with my industry recognised qualifications I have worked with dogs since 2014, as Founder and Owner of Hampstead Housesitters and Hampstead Hounds Regions I cover I can work in person with dogs, puppies and owners across London. If you live outside this area I can assist with Zoom consultations. About David Thomas David is a highly experienced broadcaster, trainer and manager, with a special interest in communication and organisational skills. He has trained freelancers and other creative people at the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, as well as the entertainment and theatre unions BECTU, Equity, NUJ and the Musician’s Union. He also trains other trainers in how to get the best out of remote learning using Zoom and other online tools. His media training is focussed on charities and NGOs. Clients include Age UK, Mencap, MEND, the Disasters Emergency Committee, the King’s Fund and the Electoral Commission, as well as a range of NGOs at the United Nations. He has been involved in radio and online production for more than 30 years, mostly with the BBC World Service and local radio. His expertise has taken him all around the world, working with broadcasters from Eastern Europe, the Far East, Africa and the Caribbean. He has a keen interest in personal development and professional motivation of others, honed through years as a team leader and trainer. David is a member of the BFI. He is also an Affiliate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. His interests are film (especially obscure East German movies), music, and travelling the world with his family.

Working with children is both a privilege and a responsibility. We all want the young people in our care to engage with learning and thrive in our settings, but children often spend large parts of their school day learning indoors. They are also spending more of their free time in sedentary or technology-based activities. While there is nothing wrong with these activities in moderation, entire days and weeks spent away from natural environments is known to be detrimental. Children’s brains are hard-wired to connect with the natural world and unless they are exposed to such environments on a regular basis, they risk being denied essential opportunities for optimal neurological development. Humankind was first listed as a registered charity in 1984. We are committed to reducing deprivation and exclusion and to improving people’s wellbeing; our vision is for people of all ages to be safe, building ambitions for the future and reaching towards their full potential.  We are an established provider of LGBT+ services and have recognised/supported LGBT+ young people across the North-East for over 14 years. During this time, we have undertaken significant growth in our model and delivery areas, based on service user/partner feedback, referrals, and issue presentation. This growth has led to the development of our training offer and the appointment of a full time Lead Trainer at the beginning of 2022.  While our support services are based in the North-East, we offer a range of CPD accredited training sessions to professionals, young people and schools nationwide. These sessions have been developed by a team with extensive and varied lived, professional and teaching experience. Our training sessions cover topics including LGBT+ Awareness, Gender Identity Awareness, Creating an LGBT+ Inclusive Environment and Understanding Pronouns. The development of these sessions has resulted in our team having an in depth understanding of the issues faced by members of the LGBT+ community in the workplace, the challenges they can face and strategies to promote allyship and effective inclusion.
