Arts Connect – Our Guiding Principles Arts Connect works with a variety of partners including education, arts, culture and local government in the West Midlands to ensure that all children and young people can benefit from engagement in high quality arts and cultural activities. We believe that engagement with the arts and culture in all its forms, the opportunity to take part, to create and produce culture supports young people to build the social and cultural capital that enables them to thrive. It builds creative skills that are valued by employers and can provide pathways into careers in the creative industries. We know that cultural opportunities for young people are not equal and this correlates with post code, socio-economic disadvantage, rural isolation, ethnicity, family status and disability, amongst other factors.

My name is Jo Souter and I am an experienced specialist dyslexia teacher and assessor. I am passionate about helping children to unlock their potential! Specialist teacher and assessor Oxfordshire As a teacher and as a mum of 2, I understand that every child is different and that a 'one size fits all' approach doesn't work. As a result my teaching is personalised to each student and draws on their strengths. My philosophy is that if your child doesn't understand something, then it is up to me to teach it differently. Up until having my children, I was a full time class teacher in a primary school. Therefore I understand the demands of teaching a class of 30 children each with differing strengths and difficulties! My skill is in creating a positive learning environment in which your child can thrive. After missing school due to Covid my daughter had sessions with Jo to increase her confidence. It was really inspiring to see her learning and enjoying a more creative & fun way of learning. - Parent of a Year 1 student Over the past 9 years I have worked as a specialist dyslexia teacher and assessor both in schools and privately. In addition to assessing, teaching and supporting individual children, I provide training and guidance for parents, teachers and support staff. Heritage is a person’s uniqueness and inherited sense of identity: the values, traditions, culture and artefacts handed down from previous generations. We recognise the importance of heritage as it gives an individual a sense of singular and communal identity. School of Coding focuses on running projects around BAME communities to ensure that they have an equal chance of finding work opportunities as we believe it’s crucial that everyone is seen for their talent regardless of their background, socioeconomics status and beliefs. Digitalization has allowed School of Coding to improve the quality of their education through techniques such as online classes. School of Coding provides education using digitalization to give their students transferable skills which will provide them with equal opportunities as to be successful in the workplace of the future, people will need to have the right digital education. This strong focus on developing the skills and knowledge of staff results in all children making exceptional progress in their learning and development in relation to their starting points, The key-person system is embedded effectively in practice and staff are highly effective in supporting children’s emotional well-being, particularly when they first start and when they move from room to room within the playgroup. Children thrive at this welcoming, all-inclusive provision. Close attachments between the children and the staff are obvious. Children’s behaviour is exceptional. The manager and staff accurately monitor children’s development to highlight any areas where they might need extra support. They quickly help them to catch up if needed. The manager also looks at different groups of children to see if the setting can make improvements to support those particular cohorts.
