Therapy Services – Symbol has one of the largest teams of Speech and Language Therapists in the UK offering specialist assessment, intervention, training and consultancy for children and adults with special needs. In addition, Symbol also employs Social Workers, Clinical Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Behavioural Therapists and Nurses in its Family Assessment Services. Symbol is increasingly deploying expertise from these valuable in-house therapeutic resources across all its activities giving Symbol a unique offer to the people who use and buy its services. Family Assessment Centre & Community Support – Symbol operates up to 10 places for parents with learning disabilities undertaking a parenting assessment and intervention service (Commissioned by the Family Law Courts and Local Authority Children’s Services) and provides 9 families with longer-term specialist parenting support in the community post-assessment. Day Opportunities (The Hopyard Services) – Symbol supports 54 people with learning disabilities in a range of meaningful activities to promote skills in work, learning and leisure operating out of 2 separate sites in Kent. Supported Living – Symbol currently supports 50 people with learning disabilities living in 15 different ordinary houses where they live as tenants. This service is growing rapidly in response to local demand. Short Breaks/Respite Care – Symbol is working with 35 young people and adults providing regular short breaks. The demand for this service is also growing. We have the facility to support up to 13 people at any one time. Community Support – Symbol supports 8 people living in their own homes on a peripatetic basis.

Aileen has built her medical practice as a doctor with an emphasis on health rather than just disease. She has worked as a GP, as a Specialty doctor at the NHS Centre for Integrative Care and at Bupa Health Assessment clinics. Alongside her clinical work she sits on tribunals for disability benefits to ensure that patients receive the help that they are entitled to. Her experience with working with patients with chronic diseases has led to an understanding and empathy towards those living with these conditions and the additional support that is required. In recent years she has also become involved in medical education with the hope of helping a new generation of doctors understand the changing healthcare needs of our society and how to strive for health amidst illness and disease. Aileen lives with her partner and 3 children. She is committed to continue learning how to take care of her own health needs while working in a demanding profession and balancing raising a family, understanding the demands and barriers for change that we all experience. She personally practises mindfulness and runs regularly to maintain her physical and mental wellbeing. About SEAS SEAS (Socially Engaged Art Salon) is an award winning artists' led organization that promotes socially engaged art practices and artists from underrepresented sectors and works with marginalized communities through exhibitions, workshops, and cultural events. It also offers an artists’ support programme and residencies. SEAS' programme takes place at Black and Minorities Ethnic Community Partnership (BMECP) Centre, The Ledward Centre (TLC) the up and coming Brighton's LTBTQAI+ centre, and at the Jubilee Library. SEAS is the South East hub of the Social Art Network (SAN) and we often collaborate with invited curators, art institutes, charities and community organisations. Founded by Dr Gil Mualem-Doron in 2016, and supported by Art Council England and Brighton&Hove City Council, SEAS is a beacon for socially and politically engaged art in Brighton and south-East England. SEAS is the South-East hub for the Social Art Network (UK) and it has collaborated with organisations such as Platforma Arts+Refugees, Sanctuary on Sea, Brighton Museum, Brighton Pride, Brighton Photo Fringe, Photoworks, Blast Theory, Esmée Fairbairn, and the Coram Foundation. Since 2018 SEAS has been supported by the Art Council England and Brighton & Hove Council.
