So much has changed since we opened our virtual college doors in 2005. Back then in South Africa, there were just two of us (Nichola Meyer and Lisa Lazarus), one freelance journalism course and a handful of local students. Today, we have a global college, three country-specific colleges, UK, South Africa and New Zealand, 22 international tutors, 35 writing courses, and thousands of successful graduates.

I first took up silk painting at the 2001 Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace, when the Fabric Colour Workshop were doing taster sessions. I went with curiosity, and came home with a large frame, some silk, a brush and a box of little bottles of paint! Since then, I have completed my City and Guilds qualification in creative textiles (silk painting), and the "Access to Art & Design" Diploma at the University for Creative Arts in Farnham. I enjoy teaching silk painting and helping each student to achieve their potential. I have written tutorials on aspects of silk painting for Crafts Beautiful Magazine and Creative Crafting Magazine, and contributed three projects to "Craft", which was published by Dorling Kindersley. I appeared (briefly!) on Paul Martin's Handmade Revolution (BBC2), and was interviewed by the Victoria & Albert Museum as part of a project on traditional crafts. I have run silk painting workshops for many local organisations including Watts Gallery, The Lightbox, The West End Centre in Aldershot, Amberley Museum, Woking College, NADFAS, The Embroiderers' Guild, the Guild of Weavers Spinners & Dyers, and the WI. I have also run introductory evening workshops for a number of local businesses, and many private parties. I have also been working in fused glass and ceramics since 2009, and have my own home workshop. I have been on a number of courses at Glasszoo, UCA Farnham, Warm Glass and The Glass Hub, and have also attended workshops at the International Festival of Glass. I have been featured in the Glass Beadmakers UK Magazine and Journal. I am a member of the Guild of Silk Painters. I set up their Surrey Branch in 2005. I have also spent time on the Guild of Silk Painters Executive Committee as their Vice Chairman and, more recently, as their Publicity Officer. My silk painting courses are also listed on craftcourses.com. I produce a range of hand made accessories and homewares from hand painted silk and fused glass, suitable for all occasions. We organize meetings and social and community events with a view to decreasing social isolation and promoting diversity in the community. We also organise a varied schedule of events for the wider community during Black History Month. Our mentoring schemes introduce Young People to careers in the creative and food industries, while our outreach work has included collaboration and meetings with local schools, hate crime organisations, youth schemes and Sutton United. Kaleidoscope (available online and in hard copy format) is our fledgling magazine which gives a regular overview of our charity initiatives, together with articles on African, Caribbean and British culture, politics, history, and sport, with a view to giving writers of all social backgrounds a voice on their topics of interest.

I work with a wide variety of individual students ranging from professional athletes, musicians and actors to people with chronic pain issues, injuries or those simply wanting to become more in tune with how they move in daily life. I teach regular workshops for the general public and also to Pilates and fitness teachers, physiotherapists, runners, tennis and golf coaches and ski instructors. I’m the creator of the FeldenFit 30 day Programme to refine your ability for powerful, effective and balanced movement which is hosted by Ritter Dressage. I co teach an online course for riders called The Aware Rider with Dr Thomas Ritter and Shana Ritter. I add rider content on the Ritter’s online courses which focus on the biomechanics of dressage. I am also a Gestalt psychotherapist with a particular interest in working with developing awareness of how my clients embody their emotional and psychological patterns. Biography I’m an accredited Feldenkrais practitioner and have been teaching sport, fitness and movement since 1986. I also have an Msc in Clinical Gestalt Psychotherapy. As an internationally qualified ski instructor and ski instructor coach, I taught in Europe, New Zealand and USA. Returning to London I worked as a personal trainer and was one of the first to incorporate Pilates into my training methods. Many of my clients were very fit but I was always looking for something that would take them further. Despite daily strengthening and stretching regimes and regular osteopathic and physiotherapy treatments I found that their progress was often hampered by niggling injuries and chronic stiffness. Only when I came across the Feldenkrais Method did I make the connection that stretching, strengthening or manipulation were not the key. As I incorporated the Feldenkrais Method into my training my clients started to recognise for themselves how the way they moved could cause injury and interfere with their ability to reach their goals. Through the lessons they learned how much excess effort they put into everything they did, not only in sport but also daily activities. They started to notice surprising and unexpected improvements in their coordination. Many reported an increased sense of physical comfort and ease. I decided to embark on the 4 year Feldenkrais Training which I completed in 2002. I completed my Masters in Clinical Gestalt Psychotherapy in 2016.
