Cyan Clayworks is a working ceramics studio and social enterprise, now based at 5 Commercial Street, Leith, where we make  tableware (Chris) and sculptural handbuilt vessels (Fiona). Both of us have been working in ceramics since the mid 1990s, making work for exhibition, teaching, working in community settings, and undertaking commissions. At the studio we offer regular courses for adults and individual tuition. We have also worked with professional artists, designers and students. Other services include a membership for keen amateurs who want to access the studio to make work untutored. All services must be booked in advance. The studio shop is open a couple of afternoons a week where we sell our work.

Since 2018, I’ve taught over 1500 lessons to almost 200 different students across different platforms online. I’ve met students from a range of different ages to a range of different levels to a range of different countries, and something I found with many students is that only having live lessons isn’t enough, it is vital for students who want to seriously improve in any language to be self-disciplined, to be able to dedicate at least 10-20 minutes a day doing self-study. However, many students often lose commitment or motivation to continue and unfortunately, there is so much I can do for them as their online tutor. Therefore, the idea of EC Language was born.
