At Challenge Dyslexia we understand first hand the difficulties and frustrations parents of a dyslexic child face when navigating the educational process. The method of teaching utilised at Challenge Dyslexia follows the ‘Dyslexia Action Literacy Programme’ (DALP) This programme is highly effective and successful in providing targeted specific dyslexia tuition and is delivered in 1-1/ small groups. Lessons are formulated based on the findings of an evaluation carried out within the initial placement sessions. The lessons follow a tailored structured plan of learning points which are delivered through a combination of exercises, activities and games which aim to build and reinforce each learning point. Our aim at Challenge Dyslexia is to engage students by making learning fun with all sessions designed to promote relational learning. The lessons follow a learner led cumulative approach, which is built upon session by session. Due to the negative experiences some students may have previously experienced within the classroom, a major element built into the construct of the lessons is the promotion of learner independence, self efficacy and self confidence, which aim to increase motivation and attitude to learning. In addition to being dyslexia specialists we also have experience and training in a range of therapeutic interventions, so are qualified to address and help break down barriers to learning from this perspective.

We are affiliated to the IDTA which demonstrates our staff all have the relevant qualifications and allow our pupils to take exams if they wish. Over the years several of our dancers have achieved numerous dance qualifications, attended some of the top performing arts schools in London, and a few have now returned having achieved their teaching qualifications to pass on their passion and love of dance to the next generation. We pride ourselves on being a dance school for all abilities and treat each dancer as an individual so we can cater for each individual’s needs. Our past dancers consider us their second home and proud to the part of the Dance Factory family. We opened in the year 2000 in Sutton Coldfield and quickly achieved a good reputation. The school went from strength to strength which enabled us in 2012 to move to Tamworth and have our own premises. This has been the making of our school with people travelling from Birmingham, Staffordshire, Leicestershire and Warwickshire to be part of such a professional and successful Studios. The Dance Factory has consistently achieved outstanding exam results and won numerous awards. We train all pupils to the highest standards be that as a hobby or for the dancer to pursue a professional career. We currently have pupils training with many of the top colleges and associate programmes in the country.

I am now Learning and Teaching Lead at the AMRC Training Centre, run by the University of Sheffield, which delivers Engineering Apprenticeships from Advanced to Degree Level. I joined WEST because I believe passionately that we need to actively change women’s perception of STEM careers – and men’s perception of women in engineering! Shi-han Sensei Louis Casamassa, a 10th degree black belt is Grand Master of Red Dragon Karate and founder of the American Karate Kung Fu Federation (A.K.K.F.). He originated the American Form style. During the 60’s he traveled extensively throughout the Orient studying many different styles of martial arts. In keeping with yankee ingenuity and American tradition he took the best 7 major martial arts forms and combined them into one new powerful and effective style which is known as the Red Dragon style of martial arts. Red Dragon is a true “American Original.” Founded in 1965 by former U.S. Marine Corp military police officer and 10th degree black belt, Louis D. Casamassa. During the 1950’s, he traveled throughout the land studying with a wide variety of masters in many different styles of martial arts. He spent decades gaining knowledge, and wisdom along with a wealth of business information to enhance his ever expanding martial arts skill. In keeping with Yankee ingenuity and American tradition he used the 7 best major martial art styles and combined them into one new, very powerful and effective style which is now known as the Red Dragon style of Martial Arts. Our brand and our system of martial arts was founded upon Grand Master Casamassa’s love of the Arts. We have flourished for over half a century because of his ingenuity. Shihan Sensei Casamassa is considered by many to be the “Michelangelo of Martial Arts” by taking and combining his knowledge, talent, ingenuity and wisdom, he created an entire system of self defense that is unrivaled and one that has stood the test of time and has provided generations of Americans with a great way of experiencing the Martial arts. The Red Dragon Karate program is unique because of our original approach at mixing the best martial arts styles.
