The Edinburgh Design School is an independent design school based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Founded in 2012, we aim to re establish and promote ceramics teaching and practice which has been disappearing from mainstream publicly funded university and college education. We are a Scottish Qualifications Authority Approved Teaching centre dedicated to delivering a high quality learning experience across a range of learning pathways from beginners to intermediate and advanced classes. Bychoosing to study with us you are make a real difference. We an ethical employer, employing expert teacher practioners and suppliers and we pay ethical rates. When you join us you are not only supporting our classes, you are also joining and supporting a vibrant ceramics teaching and practice community. When you study with us you become part of a wider family of practice dedicated to building and promoting learning and teaching ceramics in Scotland. Our ceramics ecosystem includes our learning and teaching programmes, our Ceramic Artists Residency programme, our Business Incubator programme dedicated to supporting emerging potters start and maintain their own studios and our workshop programme aimed at giving proferssional potters access to new techniques and influences. We work with Craft Scotland to facilitate Continued Professional Development (CPD) for school teachers in Scotland in the fields of Ceramics and we work in partnership with the Edinburgh Ceramics Workshop to provide affordable making space for serious hobbyists and emerging ceramicists. If you undertake the full course you will be trained in all aspects needed to become a competent, confident, thoughtful and considerate Alexander teacher, and you will gain a life-transforming professional qualification. Whichever course you choose, we want to provide the best Alexander training possible – enabling you to deepen your Alexander understanding and skills to enrich your life and find greater resilience, poise and joy. You are likely to enjoy some profound mind-body (physical, mental and emotional) changes during the training as you begin to embody Alexander principles and skills. You will benefit from working in a small group setting with a highly skilled training team and a low student-to-trainer ratio (usually around 3-to-1 and never more than than 5-to-1). We seek an inclusive approach, welcoming students and teachers from different backgrounds and life experiences, encompassing (but not limited to) race, class, gender identity, sexuality, age, mental and physical health, pregnancy and carer role Wide ranging and rich: many different teaching styles and perspectives come from a diverse training team that includes senior visiting teachers from throughout the UK Outward looking: engaging with other disciplines where relevant, for example, neuroscience, myofascial integration, biomechanics, other mindful movement-based practices, and trauma therapies Principle and evidence based: teaching based on the fundamental principles of the Alexander Technique supported by the available research, as well as anatomy and physiology Openness and inquisitiveness: non-mainstream ideas and influences will be explored wherever this can contribute to understanding Rigorous: robust, standardised assessment method for certification. On an ongoing basis, students will be required to actively engage and commit to their own development (on a practical level this includes projects being completed and any missed time made up) Professional: In addition to ‘learning by osmosis’ from the professional culture of the course, there will be specific training around codes of conduct, CNHC, running a practice etc. Students are encouraged to think widely about what they can contribute during and after the training – to STAT and to the wider profession of Alexander teaching Continuous and Ongoing: graduates are encouraged to continue to visit the school on a regular basis to gain experience as a teacher until they feel sufficiently established. A mentoring system provides each graduate with an experienced teacher who they can call on for ongoing advice and support.

I have such passion for the beauty industry and love what I do! Beauty therapists (and hairdressers) have the most rewarding careers it has been stated. I couldn’t agree more! I gained my HND Beauty Therapy Qualification in 2001 from Central College of Commerce to allow me to work in an industry I loved. Since then I have worked continually to increase my skills and qualifications yearly by attending University (distance learning), nail and beauty courses, seminars, workshops and trade events. 15 years working in the beauty industry has made my career evolve and it continues to be a rewarding vocation. carol hendrie Where it all began My journey started in 1998 by doing night classes at college while working on cosmetic counters specialising in make-up. I worked in salons then went on to become a Business Manager for Clarins, beauty manager at The McDonald Inchyra hotel before becoming a salon owner in Falkirk for nearly 4 years. It was then when I specialised in acrylic and gel nail extensions as well as providing beauty treatments. I started teaching in 2003 at Forth Valley College whilst running my salon. After nearly 4 successful years in business a full time teaching opportunity arose in one of Scotland’s leading Colleges and I was the happiest girl alive when I got offered the full time position! Since 2006 I have gained the assessor and verifier award before developing my academic skills further completing a Degree in Professional Development (BAPD) at Aberdeen University whilst working in 2016 following on from my teaching qualification (TQFE) in 2011. I love teaching nails and beauty and find it so rewarding to see people achieve personal goals. I have taught thousands of students over the years and believe I can give you the best experience possible. I want to make you the best you can be through guidance and support even after you have trained. Whether it is to start a brand new career or to develop new or previously learned skills I can help you on your journey. The unique teaching experience I will provide is delivered to a small group with a maximum of 8.
