Over the last seven years I have dedicated my focus and energy to bringing this important life skill, centred around your breath as a tool for stress relief, with self-love as a necessary foundation, to over 6000 children, teens and adults in schools and the workplace. Having re-designed my life after ‘finding’ my breath, I am committed to teaching others to find theirs too, so they can thrive. After 20 years working in Human Resources, Design and Education, my life pivoted beyond my dreams. While living as a single mother of three teens and a dementia carer, I have dedicated my time to championing mental health and wellbeing education and tools for everyone aged 7 to 70. In 2014 these same tools enabled me to transform the challenge of divorce into a force for my happiness, as well as a way to make an impact on the lives of others. By bringing the power of Mindfulness to children and adults, I have offered them a support in everyday life, and enabled them to embrace plan B with compassion, when things fall apart a little. Plan B CAN be the life WE want to lead. How has Mindfulness helped me, my family and my career? Life presents us with challenge after challenge, each an opportunity to learn and grow … if you are in the right headspace when they show up. I first took up silk painting at the 2001 Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace, when the Fabric Colour Workshop were doing taster sessions. I went with curiosity, and came home with a large frame, some silk, a brush and a box of little bottles of paint! Since then, I have completed my City and Guilds qualification in creative textiles (silk painting), and the "Access to Art & Design" Diploma at the University for Creative Arts in Farnham. I enjoy teaching silk painting and helping each student to achieve their potential. I have written tutorials on aspects of silk painting for Crafts Beautiful Magazine and Creative Crafting Magazine, and contributed three projects to "Craft", which was published by Dorling Kindersley. I appeared (briefly!) on Paul Martin's Handmade Revolution (BBC2), and was interviewed by the Victoria & Albert Museum as part of a project on traditional crafts. I have run silk painting workshops for many local organisations including Watts Gallery, The Lightbox, The West End Centre in Aldershot, Amberley Museum, Woking College, NADFAS, The Embroiderers' Guild, the Guild of Weavers Spinners & Dyers, and the WI. I have also run introductory evening workshops for a number of local businesses, and many private parties. I have also been working in fused glass and ceramics since 2009, and have my own home workshop. I have been on a number of courses at Glasszoo, UCA Farnham, Warm Glass and The Glass Hub, and have also attended workshops at the International Festival of Glass. I have been featured in the Glass Beadmakers UK Magazine and Journal. I am a member of the Guild of Silk Painters. I set up their Surrey Branch in 2005. I have also spent time on the Guild of Silk Painters Executive Committee as their Vice Chairman and, more recently, as their Publicity Officer. After teaching Anger Management for five years, he was recognized as having diplomate status with the National Anger Management Association (NAMA) in 2005; which he currently holds. He has been an innovator throughout his professional career. He co-directed New York City’s first Prison Therapeutic Community Program in Rikers Island Prison’s Psychiatric Ward in 1973 and directed Rikers’ first Therapeutic Community Drug Program for the general prison population in 1974. He directed a Day Treatment Center in Litchfield Connecticut, volunteered with the L.A. Sheriff’s Department to co-create Project Turnaround, an Acupuncture Detox program on L.A.’s skid row. He co-created an alternative middle school in Topanga, CA, co-authored “Romancing the Shadow: A Guide to Soul Work for a Vital Authentic Life” (Ballantine, 1997, translated into six languages), and developed “The Village Circle Project”: leaderless groups for self-exploration. He consulted as a Co-Occurring Disorders therapist in Los Angeles working with men coming directly from prison, jail or the street for five years.
