There has been a Catholic school on the site since 1875 but, it was in September 1910 that a group of Bernardine Sisters took over the premises and created St Bernard’s Convent High School. To celebrate this centenary, three members of staff have written a history of the school. The book covers each decade of the centenary period, setting them into their historical context, and filled with contributions from former students and staff. The book also provides a fascinating photographic record of the life and development of the school. While of particular interest to those with links at the school, the book also provides a unique and absorbing study for anyone interested in educational developments and life over the previous century. Our story....When Sarah & Simon met in 2007, Sarah had just renovated her home and Simon had no idea what change of direction was coming his way! A few years on, after the birth of their son, they both recognised that they had more in common than just love!  Their passion for creatively ReUsing everyday items became fun and constant ReThinking anything from a shells to furniture to their most recent project an Upfurbished Lodge ReTreat in Suffolk. With Interior Design experience Sarah started to incorporate ReUsing in her schemes, recognising a “gem” that needed some ReLoving and clients started to offer her pieces to upcycle. Not long after she had her first furniture sale and commissions followed!  And so ReVamp Boutique was born! With basic carpentry skills from school Simon started to adapt some of the pieces under Sarah’s design eye and soon Simon took an interest in the upholstery side making this a formidable creative team. Sarah’s passion is to share some ReVamp secrets, and returning to her teaching experience she  gleaned at a local college, she now runs creative ReUse workshops which are not just sustainable but fun, sociable, excellent for your well being and the best gifts for family, friends and loved ones! The business has now undertaken many commissions, with Simon now an accomplished upholsterer and Sarah a furniture artist seen at Grand Designs and Westfield Stratford & London. The couple now have premises to run their workshops, take commissions and sell their statement furniture as well as their Retreat, the complete ReVamp experience, available for booking now. Sam is a co-owner and director of Best for Training. Sam and Anne Horn have worked closely together in education and training for many years and decided to use their expertise, skills and knowledge to start Best for Training in 2017. Sam has many years experience working in the further education sector; leading on apprenticeship provision, vocational and professional qualifications for adults and study programmes for young people. As a former member of the senior leadership team of a college, she was instrumental in improving teaching, learning and assessment across the college. Sam led her team in gaining nationally recognised awards and ‘outstanding’ Ofsted grades and Awarding Organisation reports which recognised her approach to achieving the highest quality teaching and assessment.Anne is co owner and director of Best for Training. ITSSAR is a founder member of the ABA Workplace Transport 2012 body, who regulate the industry. All of our instructors are fully accredited, and regularly undergo personal development training to keep up to date with latest regulations and guidance. All training is designed to fully comply with current guidance published by the HSE (Health and Safety Executive). We pride ourselves in delivering training that is involving, practical, and engaging. We offer training courses for novice operators, experienced operators, and those who need to undertake a refresher course to keep their certification current. HSE guidance advises employers that refresher training should be undertaken every 3-5 years, dependent on levels of supervision.
