We are a Ballroom and Latin American dance school resident in Basingtoke (Hampshire) and Camberley (Surrey) offering dance classes from Beginners to Advanced, Children to Adults, Social Dancing, Private Lessons. Our school is affilliated with the prestigous ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) and twice a year we offer you the opportunity to take medal exams. If you would like to take your dancing even further you can compete with us at the ISTD Medallist Competitions and also Pro-Am Championships. After taking his professional qualifications within the ISTD, Jonathan has been enjoying a very successful career as a teacher. Sergio & Sharon Withers Sergio & Sharon Withers Sergio & Ana Afonso Sergio & Ana Afonso Sergio Brilhante Qualified with both the ISTD and the IDTA, Sergio has extensive experience working with people from all backgrounds. In 2008 he decided to move to the UK to pursue his competitive career and become a full-time dance professional and teacher. His focus is on great technique, emotional connection with the music and of course have fun along the way. Sergio is currently in California, USA studying American Smooth and American Rhythm and will occasionally visit the studio for some coaching.Together they competed not only in Same-Sex events but were also the first and only all-male couple to participate in Professional events, challenging the notion that a couple needs to be consistent by a male and a female. As they explored the dynamics of leading and following, it felt only right to move on to the Professional field together, where they had competed for so many years. After all, if our society has developed to accept all sorts of partnerships why should in dancing be any different? They have enjoyed competing together at the most prestigious events in the UK, including the British Open that every year summons thousands of dancers across the world.

I studied Art & Design at Falmouth Art School and then took a degree in Graphic Design & Illustration at Southampton Solent University. I now work as a product developer for a large, international jewellery manufacturer. Most of the work is commercial and not particularly creative. So as a creative outlet I enjoy many craft hobbies such as crochet, knitting and sewing and occasional a bit of illustration. It all started a long time ago… I moved to Germany when I was two and was put into the local kindergarten. I couldn’t speak a word of German, however the teacher, Frau Pfenning began my integration by teaching me to knit – purely by demonstration. When I came back to the UK aged nine, my mother taught me basic crochet and I became adept at making dolls’ clothes using only single crochet – discovering I could shape garments using increases and decreases. She also influenced my knitting style – I am a “pit knitter”, as was her grandmother. As an adult, I didn’t rediscover crochet and knitting until my early thirties – 10 years on and my hobbies have become my passion. Becky Hi, I’m Becky, the Principal here at The Dance Zone. I began dancing at the age of 4, learning Freestyle, Ballroom and Latin American. At the age of 14 I became a Student Teacher and fell in love with teaching. I enjoy studying the theory side of dance and went on to take the Associate Teacher qualification in both Ballroom and Latin American with the IDTA; and Ballroom with the ISTD. I now have the pleasure of passing this knowledge on to any of our student teachers who wish to train to become qualified dance teachers and fulfil their own dance dreams. Quite some time ago, I discovered a love of authentic Street dance and still enjoy attending classes in this discipline. Over the years I have achieved qualifications to teach Zumba, Zumba Toning and Mash It Up Fitness, all great and fun exercise programs. I have had the pleasure of partnering students at competitions in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom, something I will never forget. I do not have a favourite style, I just love to dance; even my holiday every year is at a dance convention! Yes, dance is my passion, but it’s more than that, it’s who I am. Amy Amy Hi, I’m Amy, and I’ve been dancing at The Dance Zone since it opened in 2011 but have been dancing for 13 years. I have been a student teacher since 2017, I also take lessons in Tap dancing elsewhere. I have loved growing up and spending time with the other amazing student teachers and getting to know all the kids. Going to dance just provides me with a good opportunity to have fun and learn something new at the same time. Beth Beth Hi, I’m Beth, and I have been dancing since I was 3 years old. I started off doing ballet then moved to The Dance Zone at the age of 6. Dance was always something that I have loved so it’s amazing I have been able to continue dancing my whole life. I competed in several competition as part of a Street dance crew. I have taught dance since I was 12, I love being able to share my passion with the kids and being able to teach and dance with them. It’s rewarding to see the kids perform knowing that you helped to lead and encourage them. My favourite style of dance is street as it’s fun and allows for you to add your own style to routines. I have grown up with The Dance Zone and had the opportunity to be taught by and dance with amazing people and have amazing memories.
