Welcome to the East Grinstead Bowling Club Thank you for visiting the site and we hope that you may be interested in coming along and meeting us and joining. We are a very friendly Club and we play bowls during the summer months from April to September, weather depending.  It is a fun game with many health benefits. We are in the heart of East Grinstead and if driving, there is a free car park very close by. We have our own Club room, and usually have tea and biscuits and chat after each game. The Club welcomes all abilities and novices are very welcome.  We have a roll-up once a week and an in-house league game plus various Matches throughout the season for anyone interested once they have joined.  We have some spare ‘bowls’ that you may use to start with before purchasing your own. We also have a couple of Social Activities throughout the year. If you are new to bowls, we know how daunting it can be to take that first step, but we will welcome you and show you the Game and provide instruction.

John Walthew, who became Mayor of Stockport in the early 1870s, and his wife invited the town’s blind people to tea. The Walthews of Wood Hall, Reddish, had first hand experience of the disability, as their daughter Louisa was blind and deaf. After this first meeting, regular weekly gatherings were arranged, at which volunteers read to and generally helped the blind people. In January 1867, the town’s blind, deaf and residents without speech were invited to a meeting at Stockport Sunday School to draw up detailed plans for support. The meeting was chaired by James Sidebottom JP, appointed to carry out the project. To help finance the work, Mr Sidebottom pledged a donation of £50 per year. There were a number of other subscriptions including £10 per year from Mr Ephraim Hallam. The meeting agreed the main aim was to give people with sensory loss the chance of an education and work experience. The committee set up workshops where clients made goods and a shop was opened on Wellington Road South, Stockport, where they were sold. A schoolroom was also established.

My name is Cameron and I am a 27 year old keys player specialising in Rock, Blues, R&B, Funk and Soul music. I started playing the piano aged 8 and have been passionate about music ever since. I have many years’ experience providing piano lessons to people of all ages and abilities, in person, in schools and online. Companies I've previously worked for include Open2Music and Private Music Lessons UK. I can also teach students Classical and advanced music theory to a high standard. I produce many of my own documents to aid students’ learning and use methodical but fun teaching methods. With a diverse knowledge of subjects such as music culture/history and technology, I aim to give students a broad overview of all things music related. Education: After working through the ABRSM Classical and Jazz grades, I began studying Music and Music Tech A levels at college. From 2014 to 2016, I was tutored by highly regarded industry professionals such as Brian Henry (Soul II Soul, Mica Paris) and Frank Tontoh (Amy Winehouse, George Michael) at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, where I achieved a 2:1 in Professional Music Performance. Experience: I have a wealth of experience teaching the piano (and music in general) to children and adults of all ages and abilities, either at home, in a school environment, or online. Resources: I have created many useful documents over the years, catering to people of all ages and abilities. I also produced a single document called 'Essential Music Theory' featuring lots of information about scales, chords, progressions, melodic features, improvisation and ear training. Teaching online: Online tuition is useful as it is convenient for both the student and the teacher, especially when they are many miles away from each other. I have taught many students via Zoom and find it to be a useful and enjoyable experience. I have access to a reliable, fast internet connection and know how to deal with any issues that may arise. I can play the piano in software like Logic Pro X and this can be heard very clearly by the student on the other end (any audio I play my end can be heard). Students can also see what notes/chords I'm playing via screen-sharing and an app called 'ChordieApp'.
