West Central London Fixers bring together volunteer repairers and the community to fix their electronics for free. The idea is to nurture repair culture in the community, rather than throwing away electronics – indeed e-waste has become a huge environmental problem. The events are open to volunteer learner repairers so are educational as well. WCL Fixers currently organise monthly free repair events at the Dalgarno Trust and the Space in North Kensington as well as at the Livat shopping centre in Hammersmith. The idea however is to have three branches: WCL Fixers – North Kensington WCL Fixers – Hammersmith WCL Fixers - Westminster - from April 2023 We are supported by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the London Borough of Hammersmith Fulham. We work in partnership with the Restart Project. West Central London Fixers also engages in the private repair and recycling of laptops. Our worldwide reputation and the calibre of our research outputs has secured funding to lead over 10 international consortia and product development partnerships aimed at reducing or eliminating the impact of diseases upon the world's poorest people. Our state-of-the-art facilities continue to develop new drugs, vaccines and pesticides which put us at the forefront of infectious disease research. As a teaching institution, we attract more than 600 students from 68 countries, from PhD research and Masters programmes to a range of professional courses, and work in partnership with health ministries, universities and research institutions worldwide to train the next generation of doctors, scientists, researchers and health professionals. About Sound Matters was founded in 2014, following a series of conversations between Mike Edwards (climate change and sustainability expert) and Harry Coade (music producer and soundscape recordist). These conversations, which took place in London pubs, cafes and galleries, were focused on how sound and listening could be used to create more sustainable and resilient futures. Mike and Harry discovered a unique and deep synergy between their disparate areas of expertise and began to further explore how they could apply this knowledge and insight. After delivering a series of lectures at leading universities in London, Mike and Harry began working on a number of global research initiatives, and academic courses, which were designed to discover more about how sound and listening could be used to understand the political, social, economic and environmental systems shaping the world. They also began working with a number of corporate clients who were looking for new ways of engaging their staff and stakeholders with the importance of creating business practices which were sustainable for both people and planet.
