Manchester Environmental Education Network, or "MEEN" as it is more commonly known, is dedicated to supporting teachers, organisations and individuals working to promote environmental education and Education for Sustainability. To achieve this, we use a variety of methods: we run projects with schools, organise networking events, provide a termly newsletter and pool various free curriculum resources on this website. MEEN began life in 1994 as an informal organisation. It was run voluntarily by teachers who wanted to bring environmental issues into their teaching practice. Today, MEEN has become an independent charity. In January 2001 a coordinator was employed to support and build the network. Since then, MEEN has provided a range of CPD services, training sessions and networking events, conferences and numerous projects around sustainability with schools and educational providers. MEEN is now over 20 years old and still upholds its core values: it was set up to support its members and to promote the sustainability agenda within schools and to agencies working with schools. The first edition of Beehive, the MEEN newsletter, was produced in 1994, and despite a few changes in its format, continues to be produced today. MEEN has undergone two significant changes due to the impacts of austerity. Firstly, our remit changed from serving the city of Manchester to cover Greater Manchester. MEEN has always had members from schools in other parts of Greater Manchester so it seemed appropriate, especially as services in the other nine Council areas were being reduced, to widen our remit. Secondly, we now focus increasingly on projects working directly with schools either through the curriculum or working with young people in their Eco Committees.

As of November 2022 Positive Impact has a community of over 1,600 global event professionals, over 40 corporate Head of Events, over 40 Corporate Head of Sustainability, over 160 SMEs with a Race to Zero commitment, over 5 memorandums of understanding with United Nations bodies. We are the only event sector body to be a Race to Zero Accelerator, UN SDG Action mobiliser and to have education certified by the world’s largest and leading CPD accreditation working across all sectors, so our education is accessed by heads of marketing, HR and sustainability. For over 15 years not for profit Positive Impact Events have been providing engagement, collaboration and education to create a sustainable event industry. You could describe Positive Impact Events as the ‘critical friend’ of the global event sector. Our funding comes from everywhere and nowhere and every penny, cent, yen etc is used to advance the event sector so every time an event happens the UN Sustainable Development Goals are advanced and events are recognised as ensuring 'participation and inclusion in decision making’ (UN SDG16). The Ethical Education Enterprise CIC was established to provide high quality and meaningful training to people in the local communities of the Greater Manchester area. Here at Ethical Education, we pride ourselves on creating a learning environment that offers each student an individual pathway. Working with local organisations, we support staff to develop their skills through accredited qualifications and bespoke training which, in turn, enhances local sustainability. We are currently working with young people aged 14yrs + to provide additional support alongside school, focusing on their individual attributes and interests. We also work with adults who are looking to progress in work or with barriers to work. Experience has shown us that, in reality, most people simply want meaningful work in their lives and equally meaningful social relations that come as part of being included in the wider working world. We believe that an intrinsic, if not critical part of helping people to achieve their aims is to develop productive relationships with all like-minded organisations such as third sector partners, education providers, support organisations, social housing providers and employers. We therefore can develop positive transitional pathways to ensure our learners are trained to a level which enables them to confidently progress or enter into productive, meaningful and sustainable employment. Taking a person-centred approach, we aspire to produce positive outcomes for all individuals we work with, but also for employers and society, as we believe each are mutually complimentary and achievable given the right approach.
