Motivating Medics is a not-for-profit organisation, targeting young people of lower socioeconomic backgrounds - with great emphasis in and around London, UK. Many of our youth aspire to study medicine but face drawbacks in their social and educational environments. Marginalisation, feeling under-inspired and a lack of good role models are just a few of the causative factors. The aim is to motivate, inspire and educate – helping them realise that with hard work, a career in medicine/surgery is not out of reach. Ultimately, pushing these pupils in the right direction in order to increase their confidence, maximise their performance, and help them reach their study goals. Through workshops, mentoring and school talks, the objective is to bridge the gap, and help widen access into medical school.

We developed this Webinar Series because we feel there is a paucity of anaesthetic & ICU teaching in the foundation curriculum. Junior doctors often have to assess and refer critically unwell patients to ICU and/or emergency surgery out of hours with little senior support. In addition, many junior doctors are unaware of their patients’ journey after they are taken to the ICU. This series of webinars will enable junior doctors and medical students to develop this understanding and build their skills and confidence surrounding anaesthesia & intensive care. These webinars will also be an excellent introduction to the specialty for those considering a career in Anaesthetics / Critical Care. The webinars are free to attend, and each attendee will receive a certificate of attendance on completion of feedback for the lecturer.

I have a breadth of experience across clinical areas including acute medicine, respiratory, stroke, frailty, trauma & orthoapedics, surgery, neurological rehabilitation and A&E. Alongside my clinical work I have undertaken a post graduate degree in healthcare leadership, worked alongside local universities to review physiotherapy programme quality, provided guest lectures, and completed a coaching and service improvement qualification. Winner of the Gold Award - Dance School of the Year 2021 Maida Vale Ballet School was set up to offer the best quality dance education, accessible to all. The school has been recognised by the Council for Dance Education and Training, being awarded their certificate of good professional practice. This means that the school adheres to very strict guidelines with regards to the safety and welfare of its students and the quality of training offered by all members of staff. We take great care to make sure that dance is a fun activity for all students, helping with early years development, musicality, strength, posture and concentration. Developing skills which will benefit children throughout their lives regardless of whether they decide to dance as a profession. For any children who do show the talent and desire to pursue a career in the industry there are many opportunities to audition for a variety of additional programmes. The school cares about creating strong, technical dancers and is certified to teach the Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) programme, it is also a licensed Pirouette Surgery school. Both programmes are offered as workshops and incorporated into class work. Miss Alex has taught students who have gone on to be associates at the Royal Ballet School and Central Ballet School, attended the Royal Ballet School at White Lodge, English National Ballet School, the Brit School, Sylvia Young and Italia Conti. We’ve got a proud track record of helping improve the detection, care and treatment of babies with serious heart conditions, and we have exciting plans to do even more to help in the future. We were founded in 1999 by world-renowned fetal cardiologist Dr Helena Gardiner, when she realised many of the babies she was caring for could have been helped earlier. Our chief executive, Jon Arnold, is the parent of a child who has had open heart surgery for a major defect, and he heads our team of staff and volunteers based throughout the UK. Mission and need We want to increase early detection rates of cardiac conditions because we know that spotting a defect early can improve a baby’s chances of survival and long-term quality of life. Around 6,000 babies are born with a serious heart defect in the UK each year, and around 1,000 of these newborns head home with no one realising their lives are in danger. We are changing that. We train sonographers to spot defects during routine pregnancy scans; support families with a diagnosis; campaign to improve service standards; raise awareness; and support academic research.
