The consequences of prolonged stress are devastating Stress contributes significantly to the leading causes of death and disability worldwide including obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, stroke, suicide and Alzheimer’s disease. Stress is a key component in the development of burnout, insomnia, many mental health disorders including anxiety and depression and even autoimmune disease. Isn’t it time we took this seriously? Chronic stress will wreck your ability to succeed Like you, success is important to me. Unknowingly though for years I lived and worked in a way that was severely damaging my health and there were consequences. I came face to face with burnout so had to develop a new sustainable way of working under the most challenging and pressurised conditions as an acute medical doctor in the NHS. With this came severe anxiety and depression, which I successfully managed without the use of medications.

The mental health farming charity has grown and covers the whole of Wales with all areas of support. The DPJ Foundation works with leading organisations in agriculture including NFU Cymru, FUW, YFC, vets and Welsh Government to help provide an accessible and flexible service. daniel picton-jones mental health support services Daniel Picton-Jones The DPJ Foundation was set up in July 2016 following the death of Daniel Picton-Jones. The DPJ Foundation aims to support those in the agricultural sector suffering from poor mental health. Daniel’s mental health problems went undiagnosed and unseen by many. Daniel was an agricultural contractor, he was part of a sector with one of the highest suicide rates. His widow Emma decided to set up the foundation to support the mental health of those in the farming sector, for those who feel just as Daniel did, providing them with the support that he didn’t know how to get.

Born Jayne Elizabeth Fletcher, on the 30th November 1983 and grew up in Wolverhampton, Jayne was born 3 months premature; Deaf, with the doctors giving her only a small chance of survival. 38 years later this is her story… Jayne was born into a hearing family, who have no experience of deaf culture, identity or the language, they believed that Jayne would be fine and fit into normal hearing world and that she would get by . . . . Jayne struggled for years to battle mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, suicide attempts and self-harm, which she believes to be mainly due to communication issues, as so few people around her signed. Jayne spent a lot of educational years being denied access to courses that she had wanted to study such as music, due to her "disability". Her daily life incurred numerous barriers as there is very little access to information for people whose first language is BSL (British Sign Language). The impact of her announcing that she was gay, also resulted in her being bullied, not only for her deafness but also her sexuality.
