We have set up The Sid Youth to support young people and families living in our community. Having lived in the Adur and Worthing area for 30 years I have seen the changes in support available to young people and families. I have worked with young people and families for 17 years in a variety of roles including youth work, school behaviour team, Early Help keyworker, and most recently as a REBOOT youth coach. I have experience of supporting those with complex and challenging needs including school refusal, family breakdown, the use of drugs and alcohol, mental health, and young people involved in crime or at risk of exploitation. I enjoy working with a strength-based approach and helping young people overcome barriers and challenges they face but the main thing I believe in is to work with the young person rather than for the young person which helps to ensure they have ownership over the support they receive. I strongly believe that the mentoring we offer really can help support young people in making and sustaining positive changes and educate them around some key subjects that are not always covered in school. I'm really excited to be planning and creating different sessions that will benefit the young people in our community and believe that young people are the experts of their own lives and that at times everyone can need some support. It is often said that young people are “making poor choices”. I believe that this can often be seen as a poor choice by adults but may in fact be the best choice the young person has at that time.

I meet many subtle revolutionaries. One thing most have in common is that they struggle to describe what it is they do. They are doing something unique and it does not have a name yet. They may work with individuals, families or organisations. They may call themselves a consultant, founder, coach, designer, therapist, trainer, teacher, facilitator, researcher or leader. Often, they are all of these things and more. What they have in common is they are making lives better in new and unexpected ways. This is not a straightforward path. Few workplaces welcome any of the three qualities. I have yet to find one that wants all three. Working on the big picture is seen as a distraction from the urgent business of the day. It is easy to pick up the message that the approach - perhaps your greatest strength - has no value. That leads to unfulfilling work and the exhaustion of trying to be someone you are not. When you try to use these qualities, you will meet another challenge. Most of the existing advice will not work for you effectively. It is either outdated or just plain wrong. Some of it will even make things worse. This leads to anxiety and frustration. Perhaps even the sense of being a failure when things just don’t work out as intended time after time. I provide space as you reclaim the qualities that make you unique. I offer guidance as we explore ways to turn that uniqueness into a valuable enterprise. In doing so, we create a situation where it is no longer necessary to struggle for success. Where you do not have to trade energy for money.

We are a volunteer led work with very few staff, but this does not mean we are a small organization. We can see as many as 300 people a day, looking for our assistance. We remain open every day Our impact remains high We can do this for a fraction of the cost of other day centres. We do this without any statutory funding. We recognize the true strength of our volunteers. And we recognize the value of everybody coming through our doors. First, we help people by meeting immediate needs: food, shelter, clothing, and medical care. In our recovery programs, we address deeper needs for life-skills and job-skills training, and addiction recovery. We measure our progress against four criteria, which indicate to us that a life has been transformed from homelessness to hope: connection to family, commitment to sobriety, a job and a place to live, and a plan for the future. Today, The Whitechapel Mission is a results-oriented organization that is recognized as one of London's most effective. Our Purpose The Whitechapel Mission is called to serve the men and women caught in the cycles of poverty, hopelessness and dependencies of many kinds, and to see their lives transformed to hope, joy and lasting productivity. Better Training works in partnership with Abingdon and Witney college (Officially the most successful college in Oxfordshire) to achieve excellence through professional and modern training methods to deliver a blended learning experience. In September 2021 the College awarded us the title of " Outstanding provider " which was a great achievement in a very difficult year. What does Better Training Provide? Better Training has been providing Maths and English courses to the forces for the last 15 years. The tutors are very experienced, enthusiastic and sympathetic to your needs. We know that many of you struggle with these subjects for one reason or another and it is our aim to make your time with us as painless as possible. What to expect The courses we deliver vary in length depending on the difficulty level. GCSE Maths and English courses are each 10 days long with the Functional Skills Maths and English courses each being 5 days long. To enable us to provide a targeted and streamlined delivery, you will be asked to carry out a diagnostic test as part of a pre-course learning package. This will highlight areas of strength and also the areas that need to be developed. He has extensive experience of Supply Chain and Logistics in general, Business Change, Leadership and Management, Security and Counter Terrorism. David is a Chartered Fellow of CILT (UK) and a former CILT (UK) External Verifier. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, a Member of the City and Guilds Institute and a Member of the Institute of Explosive Engineers.  He was previously the Chairman of the Qualifications Development Assessment Committee for CILT(UK).
