The Bishop's Palace, Wells, SomersetThe site and buildings of The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens is owned by the Church Commissioners and operated by The Palace Trust, a registered charity which manages the site as a heritage visitor attraction. Our Purpose As stewards of this beautiful and historic place, our primary purpose is “to conserve The Bishop’s Palace and its story as a place of enjoyment and reflection for the benefit of all”. Our Vision To inspire and touch the lives of many by offering joy, healing, hope and wellbeing. Our Legacy The Palace Trust gets no statutory funding. The cost of maintaining the Palace is met entirely by grants from organisations like the National Lottery and Charitable Trusts, by Admission tickets, special events and our café. But this does not cover the entire cost of everyday maintenance, so donations to this aspect of our work are also always welcome. Likewise, the cost of conservation work cannot be met by admission fees etc. so we rely on voluntary donations to finance this aspect of our work. The annual costs vary between £400,000 and £500,000. So, this is an area where we welcome donations – large or small, regular or one-off – to enable us to carry out this vital work. Who are Hoylake Vision? A group of local volunteer residents and businesses, and we love Hoylake. We are not part of the council. So what are you doing? We produced and manage the Hoylake Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) in consultation with local residents and businesses. The NDP came into force as a statutory part of the Council’s Local Plan in December 2016 following a public referendum. What’s the point? Maybe you don’t want things to change much, because you think Hoylake is already a great place to live. We agree. Maybe you think that some things could be better, and wish there was a way to make that happen. We agree. Maybe you think some things are actually getting worse, and wish there was a way to ‘stop the rot’. We agree. We’re here for all of those reasons. But first and foremost, while wanting to celebrate and protect the best of Hoylake, we recognise that some change is inevitable and necessary in order to keep any town or village ‘alive’. And we believe local residents and businesses should have a much greater influence on future decisions around how that change happens, when it happens, and what it looks like. It really is that simple.

When I was employed by our sister company Reach Alternative Education, we were moved daily by seeing our families clearly needing support and guidance with various situations and circumstances. Although we were able to do this to a point our social consciousness knew that this was not enough. This troubled us greatly, so we set about researching what was missing from our local communities and how we could bridge that gap. We realised we could create a response to address the imbalance that would add to the already vital services out there; whilst making sure that what we offered was completely accessible particularly for our families who never quite met thresholds with statutory or specialist services elsewhere. After much careful consideration Reach Out (SW) CiC was born as a not for profit community interest company. We hadn’t of course anticipated all things Covid-19 so our pilot and launch are commencing slightly later than scheduled as we do our utmost to accommodate best practice in line with ever-changing guidelines from the government. We are very fortunate to have complete support from Reach Alternative Education along with our directors and Advisory Group. We believe we have a format that is responsive to the ever-changing need of environments. We endeavour to supply practical support, guidance and enterprising opportunities to our local families that chose to access it. We launch our pilot in late September 2020 with the aim of obtaining enough grant support and donations to make the provision available to fully launch our Not for Profit Community Interest Company in late March 2021.

We are a volunteer led work with very few staff, but this does not mean we are a small organization. We can see as many as 300 people a day, looking for our assistance. We remain open every day Our impact remains high We can do this for a fraction of the cost of other day centres. We do this without any statutory funding. We recognize the true strength of our volunteers. And we recognize the value of everybody coming through our doors. First, we help people by meeting immediate needs: food, shelter, clothing, and medical care. In our recovery programs, we address deeper needs for life-skills and job-skills training, and addiction recovery. We measure our progress against four criteria, which indicate to us that a life has been transformed from homelessness to hope: connection to family, commitment to sobriety, a job and a place to live, and a plan for the future. Today, The Whitechapel Mission is a results-oriented organization that is recognized as one of London's most effective. Our Purpose The Whitechapel Mission is called to serve the men and women caught in the cycles of poverty, hopelessness and dependencies of many kinds, and to see their lives transformed to hope, joy and lasting productivity.
