Central Scotland Ballet School began life as a branch of the prestigious ‘Scottish Academy of Dance’. From humble beginnings with only 20 pupils, CSBS Principal Mrs Jacqueline Clark established 4 large branches with a roll of over 1000 pupils. Her daughters, Amanda and Samantha, have become associate directors and teachers in the school, ensuring her high standards are maintained and keeping it a family business. The School quickly established a fine reputation as one of Scotland’s leading part-time ballet schools. Students of all ages and abilities are trained to the highest levels in Classical Ballet, studying the Royal Academy of Dance ballet syllabus in a fun and friendly environment. They complement their ballet lessons with our professional tuition in commercial dance styles including Jazz, Acrobatics, Cheerleading, Tap, Commercial, Lyrical, Musical Theatre and competitive dance, as well as workshops with guest professional dance tutors. Many students enhance their training by successfully auditioning for professional Associate schemes as well as attending holiday courses at dance colleges across the UK. Annually we have students gain places at top full-time ballet schools and dance colleges across the UK. During the pandemic we ran a successful online programme with over 2500 online lessons and events… But it’s been a delight to welcome dancers back into the Studios! Whether our students are hoping to follow a career in dance or just dance for fun and fitness as a hobby, we hope to provide them with skills they can use in all aspects of their lives. “I never grow tired of watching the children grow and develop into confident and happy young dancers. It is a constant joy and privilege to watch them perform and I take huge pride in all their achievements. I hope that my school can continue to give young dancers a sense of confidence, enjoyment and success...” Jacqueline Clark RAD RTS , Director/Principal CSBS

Hello, My name is John Bunyan I teach the Wudang style of Tai Chi Chuan as a complete Martial Arts system. I teach all 5 elements of Tai Chi Chuan: Hand Form Pushing Hands Self Defence Weapons (Sword, Sabre and Spear) Internal Strength I’ve been studying Dan Docherty’s Practical Tai Chi Chuan style since 1990 and teaching in the UK for the last 25 years. I am a certified level 8 Chief Instructor of this style (see resource on the menu for Instructor levels) and a Tai Chi & Qigong Union for Great Britain senior instructor. Students of other styles who want to learn more about the martial side of Tai Chi Chuan are welcome. Tai Chi Chuan We train using the hand form and pushing hands, but we also learn the self-defence applications, which is where the hand form was derived from. Learning the applications also helps with focus when practising the hand form. We use other training techniques such as running thunder hand, pad work, 5 element arm, San shou etc. The Spear, Sabre and Sword are taught as forms with applications. Tai Chi for Health Using the hand form our aim is to offer a series of flowing, connected movements that help improve balance, coordination, posture and circulation. It also helps to relax the mind as well as the body. The hand form is a type of moving meditation. We also use pushing hands. These are partner drills used to train whole body coordinated movements. They are beneficial because you are training to move with your partner, not against them. 8 Pieces of Brocade Qigong is taught to help improve movement in the body’s joints. To stimulate the nervous system and circulation. Students who are practising for the health-giving aspects are always welcome to join in and learn the martial aspects of the art.
