Project 4 Youth Empowerment (P4YE) is a Community Interest Company born by four friends who became tired of constantly speaking about issues impacting young people negatively, so they decided to do something about it. Concerned about the number of young people involved in, or on the verge of criminality, unemployed, or not in education or training, our team decided to try to change the narrative by dedicating tailored programmes for young people. We assist young people and families by offering a range of support such as group and 1:1 mentoring, online workshops, case study workshops, a weekly youth club, advocacy, and signposting to other professional services. Prevention, intervention, and diversional work is at the forefront of what we do and what we aim for with our young people. We have been trained in Conflict Resolution and mediation and work to resolve instances that can often lead to situations of serious youth violence by using our bespoke methods. Our team has many years of experience of working with young people in a variety of settings such as youth work, teaching, specialised gang work, outreach work and working with young people with special educational needs (SEN). We also have experience in leadership, project management and media and we use our skill sets when developing projects and programmes.

Since 2006 we have been fortunate enough to be able to rent the Hildenborough C of E primary school, which provides a fine, safe and friendly learning environment. Since the school was first established it has grown that we currently welcome around 70 children with German background from the ages of 3.5 to 11 years old. Our objective is to create a fun and friendly environment in which children can practice, enhance and improve the German they learn at home, make new friends and widen their knowledge of German culture and traditions. As we are not a formal language school, and therefore do not teach German as a foreign language, all lessons are held in German. It is therefore essential that the children have a certain minimum level of understanding and speaking German when they first start at the school. We have 6 classes with a maximum of 12 children per class. The lessons are held each Saturday morning during term time from 10am until 12 midday. All Classes are taught by German teachers or by parents with the relevant qualifications. It is important that all children enjoy being taught in German and look forward to coming to the Saturday lessons. At COP 24 in Katowice, Poland [November 2018] Harwood Education and UNITAR held a joint press conference to announce a non-financial agreement that would allow Harwood Education to access 5 of UNITAR’s climate change trainings, adapt them for and offer them to teachers for free.These courses still form the foundational training within our Bronze Award. Harwood Education, covered the costs of the video editing, voice overs and supporting documentation, marketing and social media and invested to create a joint portal that could handle the volume of teachers who wanted to take the teacher training. eduCCate Global was launched on Earth Day, April 22, 2019. By the end of that year, 329K teachers in 43 countries had taken and completed the first Climate Change Teacher Training in the world. In November 2019, Melanie Harwood was invited to speak at The Climate Change in Education Conference in Dubai. It was also an opportunity to visit a school there where every teacher was a Certified Climate Change Teacher and to meet key stakeholders in education in the Middle East region.
