Family Based Solutions formerly known as PAARS (parent abuse and reconciliation service) began as a result of three founders coming across parent abuse in their role as secondary school support workers. It was apparent that the issue did not fit the threshold for social care involvement and was not always dealt with by the police in a way that was useful. The founders decided that they wanted to try and support families so they started the charity. 2012 – NOW They began their work in February 2012 with little more than a determination to support families who had nowhere else to turn. When they started the project there were only five organisations across the UK providing any child to parent abuse intervention. The need for the service was unknown and the research and literature on the issue was very scarce, as most of the support and research came from the US and Australia.

Abi’s background is in youth work and she has collaborated with a number of organisations to develop participatory approaches to working with vulnerable adolescents. She has worked with The International Centre: Researching Child Sexual Exploitation, Violence and Trafficking at the University of Bedfordshire, supporting specialist social care teams in Wigan and Rochdale to implement strengths and participatory approaches to Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE). Abi co-wrote training for these teams with Dr Camille Warrington on behalf of Research in Practice. At the University of Bedfordshire, Abi also worked on the LEAP project (2015-17) with Dr Kate D'Arcy. Abi wrote training tools for young people and professionals across Europe, in order to respond to young people's experiences of sexual violence and to support efforts to prevent sexual violence. The three-day youth facilitator training programme is called “Life-skills, leadership and limitless potential" (LLLP). All these programmes provide knowledge and tools to apply participatory approaches to practice with young people.

The Richmond Training Hub supports multi professional primary care workforce development and transformation. The Richmond Training Hub supports multi-professional primary and community care workforce development and transformation. Funded primarily via Health Education England (HEE) we do this by co-ordinating training as well as undertaking various pilots and initiatives helping facilitate new ways of working. For example supporting primary care placements for student nurses, pharmacists and other non-medical learners. Additionally the Training Hub is committed to promoting and supporting apprenticeships throughout the health and social care. A key objective across all work-streams is the requirement to boost capacity and capability in primary and community care to enable more care to take place at home and out of hospital. Established in November 2014, the Richmond Training Hub operates as a not-for-profit social enterprise; with all funds invested in workforce development.

The Children’s Occupational Therapy service offers a child and family centred approach to support children and young people with their independence in all aspects of daily living, such as self-feeding, dressing and participating in play and school activities. The service is available to children and families across Hertfordshire. We work in partnership with parents/carers and other colleagues to promote positive outcomes for children by using a range of approaches that are individually tailored to each child and family. This may include the provision of an activity plan, specialist equipment, treatment sessions or training to parents, carers and school staff. This is achieved through individual assessments, treatment, advice and multi-agency working. Over the past 12 years, LD Training has successfully delivered over 12000 qualifications, across various sectors including; business; management; health and social care; early years; education; hospitality; retail; construction and functional skills, from Entry level through to Level 5 and specialises in providing education to hard to reach communities. Having become a well-established organisation in the Government funded training sector, LD Training diversified into tertiary education in 2019 in order to strengthen its portfolio and to provide ongoing career progression opportunities for our alumni. Following the successful delivery of our Leeds Trinity Partnership, we were successful in our approach to the University of Suffolk for a second collaborative partnership in order to provide our students with a greater choice of education pathway utilising a Foundation Year.
