Circus Hub opened August 2016 by Ria Ashcroft and Kay Monrose. We are a creation and training studio in the heart of Nottingham. At Circus Hub we are interested in all things physical, healthy, creative and fun. We offer classes for adults and children aged 7plus in Aerial Silks, Hoop and Trapeze from complete beginner to advanced. We have been training aerial for many years now and have a wealth of knowledge and experience collected along the way! “Our space in the creative quarter at Sneinton Market Avenues is the perfect space for us to train and teach others these amazing skills. We hope that people will come along and have a go. It is hard work and being up high can be scary but you feel an amazing sense of empowerment and achievement when you do something that you never thought you’d be able to do. I am never happier than when sharing my love of spinning and all things woolly. My forte is long draw spinning, although I teach all methods. I was professionally taught in 1980s and have never stopped learning and sharing my skills ever since. My new book 'Hand spinning - essential technical and creative skills', is the only one in the world that explains long draw spinning at length and in easily accessible detail. It’s fun, fast, satisfying, and the way spinning used to be done before industrial production took over. Hand spinning is not about mimicking commercial yarn; it is about creating your own unique, signature, yarn. Yarn that is fit for the purpose and bears the name of the person who made it. Yarn made in your choice of fibre, using your chosen spinning method, in colours and textures that will put joy into your life. And that is only the beginning... further joys of knitting, weaving or decoration await. However, there is no reason why spinners can't just hang up their yarn for the pure pleasure of seeing it. Unlike a framed painting though, you do more than look at yarn to admire it. You need to touch it, grasp it, dig your fingers in, smell it, feel the sensuous warmth against your face.... As I say, hand spinning transcends the commonplace - my aim is to help and inspire people to discover this for themselves. We are located in an area of South London that faces many issues including lower than average levels of physical activity, high levels of childhood obesity, poverty and gang violence. We believe that Gymnastics and sport can help in provide an answer to these issues in our local community. SGC is about more than just Gymnastics and this is what drives us to provide as many great opportunities as possible for everyone that we connect with. Our facilities are already over stretched and at capacity meaning that over 2,000 local youngsters have registered to enrol on our recreational programme but cannot be offered a space. The limitations from using shared spaces that are not designed specifically for Gymnastics mean that talented athletes leave SGC to train at better equipped clubs at an increased cost for themselves.

Ally has been dancing for over thirty years, but teaching is what she loves most. She trained at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and New Jersey School of Ballet and brings an endless love for dance to every class she instructs. She has taught at several studios throughout New York State and has earned choreography as well as teaching awards. Additionally, Ally is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level Three of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. She is also Acrobatic Arts certified and a certified Baptiste Power Yoga instructor. Her students consistently excel at competitions, but, more importantly, they grow in grace, confidence, and determination. In her classes, she emphasizes technique, musicality, and artistic expression.

Aerial PerformerHello, and welcome to my site! I am a multidisciplinary aerial acrobat and circus performer. My journey to becoming a professional aerial performer and teacher started after moving to the UK from Spain, where I grew up. It was not until I saw a breathtaking aerial show in 2004 that I knew I wanted to become an aerialist. Shortly after realising I wanted to pursue a career in circus, I joined a 2 year professional full time course in aerial acrobatics in Bristol, specialising in silks, corde lisse and aerial hoop. Straight out of circus school I landed my first ever performing job, a year contract with a traditional circus company in North India, that was both challenging and fascinating. I have never looked back. In 2012 I went back to India to work at Kingdom of Dreams, the first large scale live entertainment theatre in India. The Bollywood style musical shows at KOD feature a fully automated flying system covering an area of 30m x 20m and almost 20 meters above the heads of the audience. I worked there for several months as head of aerial with the dancers involved in the aerial scenes, mainly hanger type harness and silks. The shows at Kingdom of Dreams feature a lot of heavy props flown across the auditorium in conjunction with the performers. Another big circus production I have been part of is Circus Rocks by the Generating Company, a UK touring show around seaside holiday resorts where I performed rope and was part of the aerial and dance ensembles.

We entangle our audiences, up-close and personal, drawing them into a world where they live only for the present glorious moments. We live in complex times, an era in history poised to stretch the thirst for unflinchingly humanity-driven art to its full elastic limits. In our bold bid to provide answers, one common thread you’re odds-on to spot throughout our circus art performances is that human connectedness — or rootedness (if you will) — within communities that we celebrate. The sheer vitality we inspire and the spellbinding fabric of fragility we weave our audience into — all by the intricately knitted universe of the circus. Without question, the circus, for us, is never just about a ‘13-meter-diameter’ or ‘42-foot ring’ mastery. That would be just scratching the surface. At its heart, the circus has always incorporated a fusion of skill and soul—clusters upon clusters of exceptional human skills and artful mobility to tickle the human fancy. What sets us apart, though, is how we bring these human elements together. The spatial (on stage) and social (offstage) recognition we take to new heights to gratify, entertain, and inspire collective progress as humans. Ultimately, we’re becoming part of a more robust movement with the loftiest calling in the circus performance arts, and indeed, any other art form worth its earthly significance — to redefine the boundaries of what reflects the deepest needs of the modern-day, contemporary audience.
