Marconi Sailing Club is open for anyone to join, subject to the normal formalities. The club site is a green field of some 10 acres, with ample boat storage space, parking and a wide launching ramp accessible at all states of tide. Our two storey club house boasts hot showers, a cosy bar, professionally catered galley, as well as the usual facilities you would expect to find at a sailing club. Sailing Waters The club sails in the wide tidal estuary of the River Blackwater, with launching and sailing possible at any state of the tide. The River is ideal for exploring the islands of Osea and Northey and trips can be made to Bradwell and Maldon. Beyond Bradwell the North Sea beckons our more intrepid sailors. Racing The club has a diverse sailing calendar which runs from mid March to the end of October. There are traditionally two races on a Sunday, one starting at 11am and the other at around 2pm. On Sundays there are separate starts for different fleets, usually two catamaran fleets and three dinghy fleets. During these times our support boats will be on the water manned by club volunteers . If you don’t want to race then feel free to explore the River Blackwater and cruise. There are number of other events planned throughout the year including Dinghy Cruises to destinations near and far, Friday night sailing and a Wednesday evening pursuit race along with a range of other events. Check out or sailing programme for more information. Classes Sailed Sailors at Marconi sail a range of classes including Tornado, F18, Sprint 15 and Spitfire Catamarans. For those with only one hull there are Solos, Toppers, Picos, Lasers, Larks, Wayfarers, Wanderers and many more. Cruiser Section Our cruiser section if almost full due to the excellent mooring and storage facilities available at reasonable prices. The club can only achieve this by the ‘Self Help’ philosophy that we engineer. The Broken Spoke is a not-for-profit social enterprise started by people who are really passionate about cycling, and we provide open workshop support, mechanics courses, cycle training, women’s and transgender people only mechanics sessions, and a hub of information for people who cycle (or really want to). We partner with local community organisations, school groups, and individuals with the goal of making people more proficient and confident in cycle maintenance and riding. Since February 2018, Broken Spoke has been registered as a Community Benefit Society with charitable objectives and we are registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) under number 31918R as Broken Spoke Bicycles Limited. Some history Broke Spoke was founded in June 2012. From the beginning the founders have been working closely with the Cooperative Enterprise Hub for advice and training. Thanks to their assistance and support, Broken Spoke became a fully fledged not-for-profit Industrial and Provident Society Multistakeholder Co-operative in December 2012. (Phew, that’s a mouthful…) On 10 October 2016, we updated our registration in line with the current legislation and were then called a ‘registered society under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014’. (…not sure if that made it easier?) In 2017 we decided that the Community Benefit Society model is actually a better fit with the purpose and objectives of Broken Spoke. On 12 February 2018 we registered the amendment of our rules and thereby transitioned to being a Community Benefit Society, still registered under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014. We are also still dedicated to adhering to the co-operative principles and are based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity.

Set up in 1992 by a group of people with eating disorders and their loved ones, SWEDA has grown to provide a range of services for people struggling with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and more. Our services also give support to family members and friends engaged in the difficult task of supporting someone close to them. Our stated aim is pro-recovery. We seek to enable and empower people to improve their mental and physical health and wellbeing, thereby enriching their overall quality of life and helping them to be as healthy as possible. To facilitate this, SWEDA provides a range of services that offer information, guidance, training and support. SWEDA is user-led and based on the principles of self-help. Living Well Consortium is the West Midlands’ leading mental health consortium, which consists of over 30 Third Sector mental health organisations. These consortium members each use their experience and networks to work in a cross-collaborative way, to ensure that those who are looking for ways to access mental health and wellbeing support can do so in an efficient way. These Third Sector members work to relieve the pressure felt by the medical services, by delivering community-based and community-oriented services that focus on prevention, wellness, recovery, and resilience, in turn building a more sustainable and long-lasting solution. These Consortium Members are the service providers for Living Well Consortium. To deliver this approach using the members’ collective knowledge, resource, and capacity, Living Well UK is the public-facing charity that brings the work of the consortium members to the people of the West Midlands. This charity arm provides free mental health support to people living in Birmingham and Solihull, promoting wellbeing from an individual and community perspective to help find practical solutions to life’s challenges. These include online stress and anxiety courses, counselling and self-help, creative therapies, and CBT, drawing on the knowledge of a consortium of expert members across the city.
