Hands On Pottery is a small ceramics school based near the centre of Nottingham. The building is light and airy offering Wheelchair access to all three work studios. We have been working with people since 1990 and we encourage everyone to reach their own individual aims and objectives. Confidence is enhanced by our high standards of teaching and working in a comfortable friendly environment. The pottery is all wheel chair friendly with adjustable tables and a loop fitted in the main workshop. As the pottery is all on the ground floor it is easily accessible for all. When working at the pottery you will be encouraged to work individually, on your own chosen designs, which will be finished to a very high standard. The teachers working at the pottery are proud of our reputation, as many students have discovered their creative ability with us through the art of clay. Many students who have never worked with clay before have gained qualifications or found a new creative skill they enjoy. We believe that clay is a wonderful medium to work with and that clay brings out the best in people. The most satisfactory way we can describe our findings is: "It's not what people do to clay, it's what clay does to people" Hands On Pottery offers classes to everybody. We are prepared for you to come to us at the pottery, or for us to come to you in a place of your choice. You can also decide the length of time you would like the class to run for, how many people will be in the group and starting and finishing times. Our work: Schools where we offer Classes to learn the skill of pottery and also to help obtain certain art based Qualifications within the school. We work with people with physical and learning disabilities in schools, centres, nursing homes or at the pottery. Nursery schools and play groups. Hospitals Fun days, play days, festervals and open days. Scout and guide groups and individuals working towards their badges. Birthday parties for children are very popular and can be either paint a pot or making and painting your own work. Parties for adults are also recommended for birthdays, stag and hen groups and other celebrations that you may like something to remember. Corporate events – we work with different companies on team building sessions, which are customised for your group’s individual requirements. We work with young people who are unable to attend school, with children and young people who are being home schooled and with children and young people from different cultural backgrounds. Our Workshops Our workshops are equipped with specialist tools, equipment and materials. We also have a variety of different wheels for throwing, kilns, a choice of different clays and lots of glazes to choose from. We fire our kilns to earthenware and stoneware temperatures, which is useful for both decorative and functional wares. The Teachers The teachers are all practising potters, ceramisists or artists who have professional teaching qualifications. We all offer one to one support to enable everyone to benefit as much as possible during the time you spend with us. We have worked with our consortium partners over the last 6 years to carve out a role in East Lancashire, the wider county of Lancashire as well as nationally and internationally, as a cultural development agency that was previously lacking. We have increasingly developed our programming to address the needs of the communities with whom we work, to become a key strategic partner that works with organisations, artists, residents and local authorities to spotlight and enhance the cultural reputation of East Lancashire. Our two key long-term projects – the Pennine Lancashire Linear Park and the British Textile Biennial – are two of only a small number of core projects detailed in Lancashire County Council’s recently published Cultural Investment Strategy. These two core programme platforms bring together and elevate our embedded, long-term projects across our communities, providing national visibility, informing cultural strategy, and demonstrating that cultural productivity and active citizenship is flourishing across East Lancashire.

From the Edinburgh Hat Studio, award-winning Scottish milliner and hat maker Sally-Ann Provan creates bespoke handmade hats, headpieces, & bridal millinery for weddings (the bride, her family & guests), Royal Ascot, Henley Royal Regatta, investitures, Royal garden parties, special occasions, stage & screen. For every event and and everyday! Sally showed for two seasons at London Fashion Week in her own catwalk show, and her work and inspirations are featured in four books. She is also featured in the main film in the 'Fashion and Style' gallery at the National Museums of Scotland, and created a headpiece which was shown in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery as part of the stunning 'Beauty By Design' exhibition. She is a V&A Dundee Design Champion. Her hats have graced the heads several members of the Royal Family including HRH The Duchess of Cambridge; HRH Princess Beatrice; HRH Princess Eugenie; Zara Tindall; and Autumn Phillips, and other clients include First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, mezzo soprano Katherine Jenkins, and broadcasters Edith Bowman; Charlotte Hawkins and Francesca Cumani. She also creates headwear for opera, ballet, and theatre companies, television, and film. Each piece is designed and made with great attention to detail and finish. She is Scottish Opera's milliner making hats for over 30 of their productions, and other clients include The BBC, Scottish Ballet, The Royal Lyceum Theatre, and Netflix including a hat worn by leading lady Brooke Shields in 'A Castle for Christmas'. After her BA Hons degree in jewellery, Sally dallied a while in paper conservation and museum sculpture, before nurturing her passion for hats and accessories with comprehensive millinery training in London. Amongst others, she has trained under the late Queen Mother's milliner and with The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. She was one of 100 top British design business selected to exhibit at 'UK Now' in Australia, and also exhibited at the prestigious Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show.

I studied Art & Design at Stourbridge Art College in the West Midlands for three years, before moving to West Sussex to gain an Art with Related Arts degree at Chichester University. My sculpture work featured nationally on ITV’s morning programme. Exhibitions of my work include West Dean College and Worthing Museum and Art Gallery, West Sussex. I have also had the privilege of exhibiting my work in the Awagami International Miniature Print Exhibition, Tokushima, Japan. Along with exhibitions at; Banks Mill Studios Derby, The Art House Wakefield, neo: Gallery Bolton, Gallery@OXO Oxo Tower Wharf South Bank London, Greenpea press Huntville Alabama, Hong Kong Baptist University Hong Kong and Cube gallery Moscow. After a period focusing on other art disciplines, I returned to printmaking and the joy of the process is what pushes my work forward creatively. Learning different printing methods has helped me to begin experimenting with distinctive approaches to my prints and printing style. I continue to enjoy drawing and working painterly with a variety of mixed media, developing my own instinctive style over many other art disciplines. After gaining my degree I went on to achieve my teaching qualifications, to teach 16+ students. I then gained my Qualified Teacher Learning & Skills (QTLS) professional status, which enables me to teach through all age groups (pre and post 16). I have been teaching Art classes in the West Sussex area for 20 years, both for local Adult Education and Chichester College, along with my own private workshops. I enjoy, and have taught, a wide variety of Arts & Crafts subjects and have an extensive & practical knowledge of many areas of the arts. Currently, I teach subjects as varied as Life Drawing, Watercolour, iPad Painting, Acrylics, Pastels and Chinese Brush Painting. I have also taught Pottery, Weaving, Face Painting and numerous craft classes. I am always striving to learn and pass on new techniques and ideas to my students. I hold a Level 3 NVQ in British Sign Language and am currently studying for my Level 6 NVQ. I also teach in this subject.
