I empower women by teaching them yogic techniques that they can then share with others. I listen to and guide women and help them find their purpose in life. I lead women to connect to themselves and others on a conscious level, promoting self love and self acceptance. I support and build community through women’s circles with emphasis on ritual and ceremony to life. My offerings are both online and in-person and include yoga teacher training, yoga classes, mentoring and life coaching. I am a registered Yoga Alliance and Yoga Detour Instructor I am from Halifax, UK and live at Yoga Beach House in France where I host my retreats, trainings and workshops with business partner, best friend and husband James (who is also a yoga teacher, relationship coach and retreat chef). Born in Latvia, Mona relocated to Sweden with her family at the age of 5, and again to the US, at the age of 13. The instability of her childhood sparked what Joseph Campbell calls the “Hero’s Journey.” In 2013, Mona resigned from her position as director of The Yoga Mat studios in California, and with 1 rucksack, set out on an 2 year discovery through South East Asia and Oceania — in search of a True home. She attributes her courage to follow her heart’s calling to the practice.

Having personally grownup and lived the maktab/madrasah education experience in the 80’s and 90’s and started teaching in the late 90’s to the present day, coupled with fatherhood, I have had the opportunity to build a close understanding and interest in making sure our community can provide a learning experience to young Muslims that is relevant and relatable for the world they live in. This is despite the limitations we have in resourcing and time. In a time when our children are surrounded with competing ideologies and ways of living, and with maktab education being foundational to their lives as Muslims, it is critical that it hits home for them as independently thinking individuals. I would like to thank our wonderful teachers and parents over the years for their trust and belief in the vision that there was always a better way to educate our children. Teachers have worked tirelessly to develop the curriculum whilst simultaneously delivering it diligently. Keeping one eye on current student progress and an eye on the horizon. In this fast changing world we have constantly reflected on the effectiveness of our content and delivery in preparing for the future. I attended my first yoga class with my mum when I was 15 years old; that was the start of my yoga journey. My love of yoga grew over the years and led me to a teacher training course in 2011 with Brenda Louw at Chillout Yoga in Scotland. (Now https://www.brendalouw.co.uk ) Immersing myself in yoga and extending my knowledge with the help of Brenda just re-affirmed the facts – yoga works and I love it! I am a member of the IYN (Independent Yoga Network) and you can find me on their list of accredited teachers https://www.independentyoganetwork.org/teachers I starting teaching classes around the Brighouse area and over the years I have met some truly inspiring people from these classes and made some great friends. At the end of December 2015 I gave up my full time job and took the plunge, making yoga my full time occupation.
