Founded by John Pitchforth in 2015 to meet a growing need for a younger generation in the Heritage Industry. We have worked with education and industry professionals to create and develop an apprenticeship standard which meets the needs of employers, and allows apprentices to develop the skills and attributes needed to thrive and succeed in a growing market. With the support of the Federation of Historic British Vehicle Clubs, the Galashan Foundation and the Starter Motor Charity, HSA has developed workshop and training facilities dedicated to Heritage Engineering mechanical, coachbuilding and trim apprenticeships. For apprentices lucky enough to become part of Heritage Skills Academy, our locations within Bicester Heritage and Brooklands Museum provide an exciting and vibrant environment which embeds them within the world of specialist engineers, historic engineering and cutting edge technology. We don't just deliver apprenticeship training; we have worked to develop a recruitment plan which helps free up the time and resource of employers. We work with you to make the recruitment and set up process as easy as possible and are always on the end of the phone to offer support and advice when needed. We believe that only by working together can we ensure the skills and knowledge of passionate professionals are not lost.

We organize meetings and social and community events with a view to decreasing social isolation and promoting diversity in the community. We also organise a varied schedule of events for the wider community during Black History Month. Our mentoring schemes introduce Young People to careers in the creative and food industries, while our outreach work has included collaboration and meetings with local schools, hate crime organisations, youth schemes and Sutton United. Kaleidoscope (available online and in hard copy format) is our fledgling magazine which gives a regular overview of our charity initiatives, together with articles on African, Caribbean and British culture, politics, history, and sport, with a view to giving writers of all social backgrounds a voice on their topics of interest.

Since we opened in 2011 Hammersmith Academy has been striving to do something different. I founded HA because I wanted to create an inspiring school in the local community that had a clear vision, fostered self-confidence in its students and provided a Private School level of education for all. At HA we have adopted the Growth Mindset: excellence isn’t given at birth, but earned through hard work and determination. We focus on pushing our students to attain the highest qualifications they can, but they will only do that if they also develop a strong character. Qualifications open the door, but character gets you through it. Our longer lessons, peer to peer leadership, and mandatory ‘Session 3’ extra-curricular programme, ensure a richer, more in-depth delivery of the national curriculum, in which students take responsibility for each other and have ample opportunity to embrace subjects and skills they feel passionately about. We set high expectations and challenge our students to aspire to be outstanding in all areas of school life.
